For those of you who collect cylinder records you need no explanation of this artist. For anyone unfamiliar with the name, George W. Johnson was the first African-American recording artist. Since the cylinder records were not made from master copies, each one had to be a separate record. A good recording artist could do 4 or maybe 5 records at a time. Johnson allegedly recorded this song between 25,000 and 50,000 times on the original brown wax cylinders. This 1904 Edison recording is made from one of those recordings. On the top edge it is stamped with the number 4004, identifying it as The Laughing Song by Johnson.

 The cylinder is in excellent+ condition and it has a case but not the matching case. Buyer will include $5 for shipping.
