We just came across 15 classical albums that were all pressed in the U.K. If you're a classical album aficionado, you're well aware of the superior quality of these albums and how hard they are to find, particularly among U.S. based sellers. The albums all appear to be in very impressive condition. All of these albums have been housed in thick clear plastic sleeves which really helps to protect the covers. As you're probably aware, these albums pressed in the U.K. were made with a really thin paper stock that was laminated. The covers are usually in pretty poor condition due to the thin paper stock and the laminate seperating from the underlying cover. All of these covers appear to be in remarkable condition because of how well they were stored. Now onto the item for sale.
For sale is a copy of Beethoven: Symphony No. 5 LP released by Decca in the U.K. in 1959.
This album is the first stereo pressing and the matrix numbers are ZAL-4288-1K/ZAL-4289-1K.
As you can see, this album has the flipback cover, the original inner sleeve, the ED1 wide band groove label with 'original recording by' between the 9 o'clock and 12 o'clock positions around the outer edge of the label.
The vinyl is very clean, particularly given it's 66 years old, and still jet black. We only saw one really light scratch on each side.
In addition to the two really light scratches, there are a small number really light fingerprints on the vinyl from handling over the decades. They will certainly come off with a proper cleaning, such as an ultrasonic cleaning. There are plenty of sites online as well that show you how to properly clean vinyl without an ultrasonic cleaning machine.
We'd estimate this album to be in excellent condition after a proper cleaning and possibly near mint, but we'll let the next owner make that decision.
PLEASE NOTE: We do not play test albums, as that would take us a lifetime to do for the hundreds of albums we list very year. We give a visual description and estimated grade of the vinyl. Please see the pictures above and description below for an idea of the condition of the labels, sleeve and album cover. If there are any condition issues that you can't see, such as seam splits, scratches or spots on the vinyl, we will indicate that in the description.
The labels on the album are extremely clean and in excellent condition.
The inner sleeve is certainly original and in excellent to near mint condition with no creases or seam splits.
As mentioned above, this album was stored in a really thick clear plastic sleeve which has kept the album cover in very impressive condition with no seam splits. We removed it from the plastic sleeve for picture taking purposes and as you can see, the back is very clean and still bright white with the exception of the flip backs that are an off white color. The laminate is still completely attached to the underlying cover as well with the exception of seven small thin curved lines where the laminate looks like it wasn't applied properly to the cover. There is also a roughly 3/16" of right edge of the cover that is a slightly different shade where it was hanging outside of the clear plastic outer sleeve. All in all, this is one of the most impressive covers you will find and of course, it will be put back in and sold with the thick clear plastic sleeve.
This album will be shipped in a record shipping box via ground advantage with the USPS. We wrap all of our albums in two layers of bubble wrap and then add a piece of cardboard on each side for extra protection during shipping.
