Master of Reality is the third studio album by English rock band Black Sabbath, released on 21 July 1971 by Vertigo Records. It is regarded by some critics as the foundation of doom metal, stoner rock, and sludge metal. It peaked at number five on the UK Albums Chart and number eight on the US Billboard 200. Negatively received by critics on release, the album is now considered one of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time. It was certified double platinum after having sold over two million copies.
During the album's recording sessions, Osbourne brought Iommi a large joint which caused the guitarist to cough uncontrollably. Iommi was recording acoustic guitar parts at the time, and his coughing fit was captured on tape. A fragment of Iommi's coughing was later added by producer Bain as the intro to "Sweet Leaf," a song which was admittedly an ode to marijuana use.
Tested from start to finish by me, Luna, and cleaned with the Discwasher system. I inspect all albums under bright light and with magnifying glasses on. Both sides have a few small surface scratches across the top, these vaguely show up in the sound as little crackles on rare occasion, but there are no skips on this record, either side. I have included photos of front and back of the cover, and both album sides as well. The paper sleeve is in excellent condition although there is a tear in bottom center from previous owner dropping it too hard into the sleeve . The embossed cover looks good except for the edge tear of about 1" which is shown in photo 9, and the pale blue ink pen writing of previous owner, she wrote it on side one on the album (photo 7). The previous owner cleaned up the edges on front in a few places with a black magic marker (photo 9). It's otherwise in great condition.
