Description

78 - RARE - BILLIE MAXWELL The Cow Girl Singer "BILLY VENERO Pts. 1 & 2."  Victor V-40148 V+ 78rpm.   

Great historic western recording from 1929. Billie Maxwell was indeed the first female country western singer. She was from a ranch in Arizona and had a band that travelled and played mostly traditional cowboy songs and some of her own. She was advised to go to a Victor Records field recording session in El Paso Texas where they recorded her by herself with only guitar and fiddle. 

CONDITION: V+ (78) V+ is an average condition 78 in which scuffs and general use has dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate but playing is generally free from distortion. Surface noise not overly pronounced  Plays well. The labels are visually VG+, a scratch on one side and some sticker residue? on the other. Cleaned by a Klaudio Ultrasonic record cleaner.  See scans.  My 78's are packed between cardboard, inside a 12 x 12 x 4 box, with lots of packing material.
