Hello. Over the next couple of weeks I’ll be selling my Red Holloway collection. James “Red” Holloway (b.1927, d.2012) was a jazz/blues sax player who performed with many of the greats including: John Mayall, Etta James, Billie Holiday, Muddy Waters, Sony Rollins, Lester Young, Sonny Stitt, and Aretha Franklin.
To my knowledge, this film has never been copied. All images were shot off a screen while the film was rolling with a low resolution on my camera.
NOTE: Any rights I may have had as the previous owner of items from this collection, I give to the winning bidder.
Up for sale is a 50-foot 8mm Kodachrome film (no sound) featuring shots of musicians who were on a tour called the “Windy City Revue.” This tour included Red Holloway and his band, Jimmy Reed, Koko Taylor, and others. The film is in excellent condition with no vinegar odor. The Kodak edge mark (square, circle) dates the film stock to 1965. There is approximately 1:30 of footage relating to the tour. The other half of the film depicts a ceremony being held in a church where several women are seen standing in front of the congregation. After the ceremony, several folks are seen on the street. One of the women is most likely Red’s mother.
Included in this sale will be two excellent 35mm Kodachrome color slides of Red on stage playing sax.
