Having been a collector of Art Cover Records for 10 years I had the honour to present my collection at ART BASEL the world's premier international art show for Modern and contemporary works.

Having become a father my wife convinced me to downsize my collection in order to enlarge our living space. So in the next few weeks I will present a lot of art cover records of a wide range of artists that have been presented at ART BASEL.


Andy Warhol Art Cover 10" Carlos Chavez - A Program of mexican music 1949


This is Andy Warhol's first record art cover. He created it in 1949. The music on this record is a concert of Aztec Music that was performed nine years earlier in May 1940 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. PART OF THIS AUCTION IS THE ORIGINAL PROGRAM BOOK & FLYER of this event in 1940. The book (32 pages) not only contains interesting notes by Carlos Chávez and Herbert Weinstock on all tracks, but on page 13 also the beautiful illustration of 'Ancient Mexican musicians' from the Codex Florentinus that inspired Warhol directly for the drawing he made for the LP cover.

A rare opportunity for Warhol collectors to own both the album and the source for its cover art.

Cover, Program Book & Flyer are in wonderful excellent condition. Record has got some scratches.
