This beautiful and rare LP from His Master’s Voice (ALP 1588, UK EMI pressing, red/gold label – ED1, mono – no stereo edition exists, laminated flipback jacket) features pianist Annie Fischer’s glowing account of Bartoks’ Piano Concerto No. 3 Sz 119, arguably unsurpassed on record – recorded with conductor Igor Markevitch and the London Symphony Orchestra at EMI Studio No. 1, Abbey Road, London, on 14 November 1955.

Filling out the disc is another magnificent Bartok performance, that of the Dance Suite, with Igor Markevitch again on the podium, this time leading the Philharmonia Orchestra – a reading set down, also at EMI Studio No. 1, Abbey Road, London, on 13 January 1954.

There are informative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by John Amis, provided in English only. The striking cover design is uncredited.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is some fraying to the laminate along the open edge of the jacket, as well as minor wear at corners. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT), this is a fine copy and playback is superb. However, if you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP – this is a lovely collector's copy.
