BEATLES 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME' RARE 1963 DECCA PRESSING LP
You are bidding on an ultra rare, 1st issue, Decca contract pressing of the 1963 Beatles ‘Please, Please Me’ LP, Released in 1963 on the Parlophone record label, Cat. number PMC 1202.
Due to overwhelming demand in the run up to Christmas 1963, the EMI presses were unable to keep up with demand. They turned to rival record company Decca, and contracted them to press a quantity of "Please, Please Me" and "With the Beatles" albums,
Decca contract pressings can be identified by the indented ridge 15mm in from the outside label edge.
Due to a confidentiality agreement between the two organisations, exact quantities of Decca pressings are unknown. However, it is thought no more than 5% of total sales are Decca pressings, and nearly 90% of those being the newly released, Beatles second album "With the Beatles" rather than the already high volume selling debut "Please Please Me" album. This is borne out by the absence of this pressing on even the biggest dealers’ lists and networks and the high prices even poor condition copies command.
This is an ultra rare Decca contract 1st pressing, complete with the defined Decca label groove in incredibly well kept condition.
Vinyl Grade
The vinyl labels are the yellow Parlophone variety, complete with the Decca groove,
Side 1: minimal wear around the central spindle area, beautiful bright text, vinyl retains it’s original luster showing only the faintest whispery, sleeve withdrawal marks, visible only under a strong tungsten light or bright sunlight. Plays perfectly without clicks, pops, crackle or distortion. Grade; Excellent+
Side 2: no discernable wear round hole; the same, original luster and beautiful track condition. . Plays perfectly without clicks, pops, crackle or distortion. Grade; Excellent+.
It’s clear that both sides have been played very little. This is even more evident when actually playing the vinyl. There is no hint of distortion or track noise. Just a very loud, (as these early pressings were) Beatles recording on premium 1960s vinyl.
Inner Sleeve
Original Emitex; It’s always impressive when LPs of this age come complete with the original inner sleeve. That’s when you know an album has been well cared for. This is the original, patents applied for Emitex, inner sleeve in excellent condition.
Outer Sleeve
Original Ernest J Day & Co, sleeve, completely free of any marking, writing or graffiti. One, small area to the top right of the rear has been bumped which can be clearly seen in the photo. Otherwise Excellent. The front of the sleeve is glossy and flat with just light laminate creases to the edges, (even then, only two corners) & very light corner bumping, the spine is 100% solid & readable, and free from rips or tears. Both sides are very well preserved, clean and bright.
There can’t be many copies of ‘Please, Please Me’ still in circulation in this condition. Add to that the rarity of the Decca contract pressing and you have here, a seriously desirable Beatles rarity.
