THE BEATLES
I am pleased to offer for sale this very nice example of,
‘ PLEASE PLEASE ME ‘ ORIGINAL UK MONO 1963
( RARER DECCA CONTRACT PRESSING ) ( 5 TH LABEL VARIANT )
Very Nice All Round Condition Including EXCELLENT Audio.
Note; Due to extremely high demand and pre – orders for ‘ Please Please Me ‘ their First Album, EMI / Parlophone sub contracted a small amount of overstock to be pressed by the DECCA Pressing Plants, this has resulted in these DECCA CONTACT Mono pressings Becoming very sought after by collectors and are becoming ever harder to find in anything Like decent collectible condition.
The DECCA contract pressing can be identified by the following criteria, Firstly the disc Labels show a large pressed outer ring towards the outer edge of the disc labels, there Is no Tax Code pressed at the center of either disc label, and there are NO Buckingham Stamper codes to either run off areas.
Catalogue No, PMC 1202
Matrix No,s ; Side 1, XEX 421 – 1N, Side 2. XEX 422 – 1N.
Mothers ; Side 1, 1/ 11, Side 2. 14.
Stamper Codes; NONE.
Both labels ‘ Recording First Published Etc …… ‘ Label Text. & ‘ The Parlophone Co Ltd Etc ……’ Label Rim Text
CONDITION;
Please Note; In my opinion the grading of vinyl records and sleeves is at best subjective So with this in mind I will always err on the side of caution with my Grading’s. Which are based on the ‘Record Collector‘ UK Grading’s There seems to be far too many vinyl records being offered for sale that are Not realistically graded.
DISC; - LABELS , EXCELLENT / EXCELLENT -
Both Labels are in lovely condition, all the silver and yellow lettering is in pristine condition , The Side 1 label shows a few small feint spindle trails, I could not see any spindle trails on the Side 2 label, it shows just a very small rub mark on the top logo Both labels show NO writing, stickers or sticker removal marks whatsoever. There is just a very small amount rubbing around the spindle hole
DISC; VISUAL, EXCELLENT - / VERY GOOD +
In normal daylight it shows both disc surfaces to have retained their beautiful original deep black gloss sheen. The only negatives are just a very few and feint wispy surface hairlines to the side 2 vinyl which are NON – FEELABLE and do not impact on the excellent audio.. The vinyl on both sides show NO feelable stylus marks and NO rubs, .Directly beneath my unforgiving Double Halogen desk lamp the only other marks that I Could detect were just some very feint and harmless wispy bag removal type hairlines.
. DISC; AUDIO, EXCELLENT + / EXCELLENT
During one very careful play of both sides of this superb disc the Audio was excellent all round. The Audio was deep, rich and punchy. On Side1 of the disc I could detect NO static, pops or clicks, even in between tracks the background remained silent. On Side 2 of the disc the audio was very similar to Side 1 apart from just a few occasional light dust pops around the tracks 3, 4 & 5, but this was very superficial and did not detract from the overall and excellent listening experience. Throughout both sides I could detect NO skips, stalls or heavy crackle .
.INNER; EXCELLENT
This inner is the original poly lined ‘Patents Applied For’ Emitex , which is in very nice condition It shows NO, rips, tears, seam splits, writing or stickers, It shows just some inevitable light creasing and a little light age toning primarily towards the top open edge. .
SLEEVE; Front Panel; EXCELLENT
The outer sleeve is the original E.J. Day front laminated tri - flipback sleeve with an unlaminated back panel. The front still retains a very nice high gloss sheen, it shows a few light thumbnail creases ostensibly to the bottom edge and the spine edge, there is no laminate lift or peel.
.The top and bottom seams are free from any splitting or heavy wear, the spine is very firm with all the spine text crisp and clear. All four corners show some very light wear but no heavy rubbing,
Flipbacks; EXCELLENT +
The Tri Fold Flipbacks are firm and flat and they are in lovely clean condition with no more than just a few clean thumbnails, the corners are still in nice condition and show NO missing paper. .
Back Panel; EXCELLENT + The back panel has survived in wonderful condition, it is still very clean and white and shows NO heavy age toning / browning that is often associated with these back panels, It shows NO writing or stickers of any king, and the open edge is still firm & sharp There is just an area of very light age toning around part of the area of the Track listings ( See Photo ).
SLEEVE OVERALL GRADING IS A FIRM, EXCELLENT
In my opinion this is an excellent overall example of this sought after DECCA CONTRACT variant of this the First Beatles Album And represents an ideal future investment
