BEATLES "YESTERDAY AND TODAY" 1966 (T-2553) Capitol Records. This is the infamous "Butcher Cover." The black "V" on Ringo's sweater can plainly be seen. 2nd state Mono(T-2553). Unpeeled sleeve and Record are in Excellent condition. Sleeve has tape on the top left corner and the letters "S.M." written on the top right both of which will come off once peeled. There are no seam splits. This would be a great gift for any Beatles fan. "Capitol 2553, "Yesterday" ...And Today was a U.S. only compilation of tracks cribbed from the group's previous EMI album releases. The original cover photo for this album depicted the smiling Fabs dressed in butcher's smocks, covered with pieces of raw meat and baby doll parts. Capitol, after pressing up hundreds of thousands of covers and sending out advance copies, did a turnabout and pulled the album from distribution almost immediately. A new cover with an inocuous photo of an unsmiling, some say dour, group posing around a steamer trunk, was designed. Rather than destroy the orginal covers, Capitol simply pasted this new "trunk" cover over the "butcher cover" and sent them back out to their distributors. This has created a situation for collectors where this album has a variety of terms applied to it according to the state the cover is in: "Second state" refers to the album as it was sent out for sale with the trunk cover pasted over the original butcher cover. Whether or not a copy of the album is a second-state is readily apparent: the black "V" of Ringo's sweater on the original cover can be seen through the paste-over midway up the right side of the cover, beneath the album title.
