Description
BEATLES UK, Sgt Pepper LP, 8mm wide spine sleeve, original 1967 UK mono.
PMC 7027, original UK 1967 black and yellow Parlophone labels.
A first issue UK mono wide spine copy in original condition, featuring:
1. a first UK issue mono ‘flip back’ sleeve featuring an ‘8mm wide spine’. It is believed that these original ‘flip back’, wide spine Pepper sleeves were the very first to be printed when the LP was first released in the UK back in June 1967. Due to packing / storage problems at EMI the ‘wide spine’ sleeves were dis continued in favour of the more familiar, ‘thinner’ spine ‘flip back’ Pepper sleeves.
CONDITION:
THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent condition. The sleeve is fully laminated. The original ‘wide spine’, measures 8mm at it widest point and is in excellent condition, it has remained an excellent clean, fresh white in colour and all the text on the spine is clear to read. The four opening edges are in excellent condition have remained clean and sharp for their age. When the ‘gate fold’ sleeve is opened the two original, top ‘flip backs’, ie fold over edges can be seen. When the ‘gate fold’ sleeve is opened it is super clean and glossy inside. There are NO splits, tears, pen writing, stains, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve.
THE INSERT: is in excellent condition and is the original DARK green cardboard ‘cut-out’. There are NO tears, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the insert. There is some light ‘ageing’ to the rear.
THE INNER SLEEVE: is in near excellent condition and is the original red and white ‘wavy’ pattern inner sleeve. The two opening edges have remained clean for their age, overall a very clean and original well preserved and relatively ‘crease free’ inner sleeve. There are NO tears, stains, stickers or sticker residue on the inner sleeve. There is a centre split to the bottom edge and a set of initials written in blue pen, ‘inside’ the inner sleeve.
THE RECORD: side one is in excellent++ condition. Side two is in near excellent condition. The record is made of the original, period 1960s ‘thick, heavy’ vinyl. It has remained very dark and glossy.
The matrix are: XEX 637 - 1 and XEX 638 - 1,
The mother / stampers are: ‘37 ATH’ and ‘19 AMM’.
THE AUDIO: side one plays excellent++, it plays with some light ‘crackle’ heard here and there. Side two plays excellent+, I heard a ‘pop’ on the intro to track one, otherwise it plays with some light ‘crackle’ heard here and there. The record lays flat on the turntable.
THE LABELS: side one is in excellent condition, there is a name written in ‘pencil’ within the black area of the label. Side two is in near excellent condition. The letters ‘KT’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side two. The labels are free from any ‘other’ pen writing etc, and free from any stickers / sticker residue.
