BEATLES UK – Sgt Pepper LP, original Mono wide spine sleeve, 1st UK issue.

PMC 7027 – original black and yellow Parlophone labels.

A very first UK Mono issue with a wide spine sleeve, in original condition, featuring:

1. a first UK issue Mono flipback sleeve with a ‘8mm wide spine’. It is now believed that these flipback ‘wide spine’ Pepper sleeves were the very first to be printed when the LP was first released in the UK back in June 1967. Due to packing storage problems the wide spine sleeves were discontinued in favour of the more familiar, ‘thinner’ spine flipback Pepper sleeves,

2. the record has very early ‘mother / stampers’, they are: ‘ 1 G P  and 1 G O.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent+ condition, the sleeve is fully laminated. This laminate is very glossy and relatively unscuffed. The original wide spine is in excellent condition and all the text on the spine is clear to read. The spines width measures 8mm. The four opening edges of the sleeve are clean and sharp. The original exposed two top flipbacks can be seen when the sleeve is opened. There are NO splits, tears, stains, stickers or sticker residue. To the front top there is an old faded name written in blue pen.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent++ condition and is the original red and white ‘wavy’ pattern sleeve. One of the best condition original Pepper inner sleeves I have seen for a long time, it has remained an excellent clean fresh, white in colour and amazingly it has remained relatively crease free. There are NO tears, pen writing, stains, stickers or sticker residue. There is a slight split to the bottom edge.

THE VINYL: is in excellent condition. The vinyl is made of the period ‘thick, heavy’ vinyl, it has remained very clean, dark and glossy and doesn’t look as if its been played very much at all.

The matrix are:    XEX  637 - 1   and   XEX  638 - 1,

The mother / stampers are: ‘1  G P’  and  ‘1  G O’, very early mother / stampers.

THE AUDIO: is excellent++ one of the best mono Pepper audios I have heard for a long time. It plays with excellent quiet grooves and even the long fade out to the track ‘A day in the life’ plays relatively quietly, with little in the way of crackle. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: each of the labels have some signs of sticker residue to them, at the top, so I will grade the labels as very good++ condition, they would have been graded as excellent++ but for the sticker residue presence. The letters ‘K T’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side one. The labels are free from any pen writing.

TO GRADE THE CONDITION OF THE RECORD I AM USING THE OFFICIAL GRADING SYSTEM FROM THE ‘RECORD COLLECTOR’ MAGAZINE.
