Description

BEATLES UK, Sgt Pepper, ‘Patents Pending’ text sleeve, original 1967 UK mono LP.

PMC 7027 – original UK 1967 mono black and yellow Parlophone labels.

An original UK mono album, featuring,

1. printed on the rear bottom, right of the sleeve is the text ‘Patents Pending’. Only a very small number of the very early original mono ‘flip back’ sleeves had this text. It is documented that the official release of Sgt Pepper for the 1st June 1967 in the UK was somewhat of a rush. EMI and the Beatles were keen to catch the mood of the time that was soon to be called, ‘The Summer of Love’. This particular copy of this album confirms this rush release due to the fact that the printers had not yet agreed to the ‘Patents’ of the sleeve. Very soon after the album was officially released the ‘Patents’ were agreed and the ‘Patents Pending’ text was removed from the sleeve. Out of interest, there are some later stereo Pepper ‘flip back’ sleeves that had the ‘Patents Pending’ text on, but this was apparently a printing error !.

2. on side two of the record it looks as if the ‘mother’ has been mis pressed, as the number ‘8’ has been stamped a number of times into the ‘run off’ groove.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent+ condition, the sleeve is fully laminated. This laminate has an excellent bright glossy finish and has remained relatively free from any ‘scuffing’ and ‘indentations’. The spine is in excellent+ condition and has remained very clean, white, strong and straight and all of the text on the spine is clear to read. The four opening edges of the sleeve are in excellent+ condition and have remained clean and sharp. When the sleeve is opened the two original top ‘flip backs’ can be seen. There are NO tears, splits, stains, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve. To the front bottom corner there is some slight creasing.

THE INSERT: is in near MINT condition and is the original ‘dark’ green cardboard cut-out. There are NO tears, creases, pen writing, stains, stickers or sticker residue on the insert.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in near excellent condition and is the original red and white ‘wavy’ pattern inner sleeve. The two opening edges have remained very clean. A very clean and crease free original sleeve. Theres NO pen writing, stains, stickers or sticker residue on the inner sleeve. There is a split to one of the side edges and a split to the bottom edge and a slight split to the other side edge. There is a small, 5mm tear to the bottom edge, to one side only.

THE RECORD: is in near excellent condition. The record is made of the original period, 1960s ‘thick, heavy’ vinyl. It has remained very dark and glossy.

The matrix are: XEX 637 - 1 and XEX 638 – 1.

The mother/stampers are: ‘1 ATP’ and ‘? APO’, as mentioned above, see photo, it looks as if the ‘mother’ has been mis pressed, as the number ‘8’ has been stamped a number of times into the ‘run off’ groove.

THE AUDIO: side one plays excellent++, it plays with excellent quiet grooves. Side two plays excellent+, it plays with just some light ‘dusty’ crackle. The record plays with a full, clear loud period mono sound. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: side one is in excellent+ condition. Side two is in excellent condition, there are some spindle tracks around the spindle hole. The letters ‘KT’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side one. The labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.
