BEATLES UK, White Album, Racoon mis press & 11mm spine, original 1968 UK numbered stereo sleeve LP.

PCS 7067/7068, 1968 UK first issue Apple record labels.

A 1968 UK first issue, top loading stereo sleeve with a unique serial number of, ‘0595038’.

1. on record one, side two, the record label features the spelling mistake of, ‘Racoon’ !, it has been incorrectly spelt with only one ‘c’ !. EMI were quick to spot this error and it was soon corrected, but this didnt stop some copies getting out into the shops. Only a very small number of these ‘mis pressed’ record labels were ever printed,

2. the main sleeve features a very wide spine, much wider than regular sleeves, measuring 11mm at its widest point. The spine appears to have been ‘made’ differently as the regular ‘seam’ that usually runs along the spine is less defined,

3. the records matrix on side four is unusual as it features not the usual ‘1’ matrix but a, ‘2’ matrix,

4. as this is a 1968 UK first issue, sides one and three of the record labels feature the original dark green Apple colours,

5. as this is a 1968 UK first issue, all four record labels feature the text, ‘Sold in UK’, etc,

6. the text of, ‘Sold in UK’ etc on each record label is printed in a more unusual ‘slimmer font’,

7. even more unusual is the text on each record label of, ‘YEX ***’, as this is also printed in a more unusual ‘slimmer font’,

8. comes with its original two 1968 ‘apple’ black inner sleeves,

9. comes complete with its original large poster and four photos.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in near excellent condition, the double album ‘gate fold’ sleeve is fully laminated. The quality laminate has an excellent clean glossy finish to it. On the front of the sleeve is an embossed ‘Beatles logo’ and a unique individual serial number of, ‘0595038’, this number appears clear and bold. The spine is in near excellent condition and has remained clean, white and straight. All of the laminate is complete on the spine and all of the text on the spine is clear to read. The spine is unique as it is a very wide spine, much wider than a regular sleeve, measuring 11mm at its widest point. As this is an original 1968 UK first issue stereo sleeve, the word ‘stereo’ is printed small on the rear panel, to the top right corner. The four opening edges of the ‘top loading’ sleeve have remained very clean. The original two ‘flip backs’, ie fold over edges can be seen when the sleeve is opened. When the ‘gate fold’ sleeve is opened it is super glossy and clean. There are NO tears, splits, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve. There is a slight ‘water mark’ to the top of the spine but this doesnt notice very much and the ‘indentation’ on the laminate of a small name written long ago on the front, top right corner, but this is only really seen when the sleeve is ‘tilted’ to the light. There is some ‘ringwear’ to the lower edge of the front and rear panel.

THE INNER SLEEVES: are the original two 1968 UK black ‘APPLE’ inner sleeves. One sleeve is in good++ condition, it has two clean opening edges. The number ‘1’ is written in pen on the front and another number ‘1’ can be seen written through the ‘die cut hole’. There is a split to one of the side edges and an 80% split to the other side edge. There is a 20mm tear to the front, right side edge (front panel only) and a 10mm tear around the ‘die cut hole’. Theres NO stickers or sticker residue on this inner sleeve. The other sleeve is in very good condition, it has two clean opening edges. The number ‘2’ is written in pen on the front and another number ‘2’ can be seen written through the ‘die cut hole’. There is a split to each of the side edges and a very slight split to the bottom edge. There are NO tears, stickers or sticker residue to this inner sleeve.

THE POSTER: the original poster is in very good++ condition. A very solid and complete poster. There is 40mm of wear to one of the outer edge folds and some slight age related marks here and there. Theres NO pen writing, pin hole damage, sellotape, blue tack, stickers or sticker residue on the poster.

THE PHOTOS: the original four photos are present, their condition is: John, is in excellent condition with clean borders and rear. Paul, is in very good++ condition with clean borders and rear, there is some slight creasing and some ‘ring’ marks to the front, possibly from a ‘tea’ cup. George, is in excellent condition with clean borders and rear. Ringo, is in very good++ condition with clean borders and rear, there is some slight creasing. The four original photos are made from the original thick quality card. Theres NO pen writing, pin hole damage, tears, sellotape, blue tack damage, stickers or sticker residue on the photos.

THE RECORDS: record one, side one is in very good++ condition, side two is in excellent+ condition. Record two, side three is in excellent condition. Side four, I can see a ‘mark’ that runs over the first half of track five, so I will grade this as very good, otherwise the rest of side four is in excellent+ condition. The records are made of the original 1960s ‘thick and heavy’ vinyl. The records have remained very dark and glossy.

The records matrix are: record one, side one, YEX 709 – 1, side two, YEX 710 – 1, record two, side three, YEX 711 - 1 and side four, YEX 712 – 2, unusually a ‘2’ matrix,

The mother / stampers are: record one, side one, ‘3 LH’, side two, ‘2 LH’, record two, side one, ‘3 GHM’ and side four, ‘1 GOP’.

THE AUDIO: record one, side one plays very good++ with some light ‘crackle’, at the end of track four and onto track five I did hear some light ‘ticks’. Record one, side two plays very good++ with some light ‘crackle’, I did hear some light ‘ticks’ on track six. Record two, side one plays very good++ with some light ‘crackle’. Record two, side two plays very good++ with some light ‘crackle’, I did hear some light ‘ticks’ on track five. Each side plays with a full, powerful period stereo sound. Each record lays flat on the turntable.

THE RECORD LABELS: record label one, two and three are in excellent++ condition, record label four is in excellent+ condition. Each of the record labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.
