Description

BEATLES UK, White Album, numbered sleeve, 3rd issue UK stereo with photo spacer.

PCS 7067/7068 - Apple record labels.

An original UK third issue, side opening, numbered sleeve, circa 1970 in original condition, featuring:

1. by 1970 the UK Beatles White Album sleeve had become a ‘side opening’ sleeve with a unique ‘six’ digit number printed on the front. The number of this sleeve is: 146625,

2. the record labels on sides three and four have a more unusual text layout, ie side three, the track ‘Mother natures son’, is printed on one line of text, including the publishing credit, rather than two lines of text that appears on regular copies. On side four the track ‘Savoy truffle’ is also printed on one line of text, including the publishing credit, rather than two lines of text that appears on regular copies,

3. the record labels on sides one and three have a lighter green colour and all four labels have a ‘matt’ finish to them,

4. although this copy is from 1970, the record labels still read, ‘Apple Publishing’, for the publishing credits to the George and Ringo tracks,

5. the records come with their original circa 1970, ‘Apple copyright’ inners’.

6. comes with its original photo paper spacer, these were normally thrown away !.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is near excellent condition. The gate fold, two record sleeve is fully laminated. The laminate has remained clean for its age, it is glossy and has remained relatively free from much ‘scuffing’ and ‘indentations’. It is a side opening sleeve. The four opening edges of the sleeve have remained sharp and clean. On the front of the sleeve, ‘The Beatles’ is embossed, together with a unique six digit serial number of: ‘146625’. The spine is in excellent++ condition, one of the best condition spines I have seen, the spine has remained an excellent clean white in colour with just some of the usual slight flaky laminate here and there, all of the text on the spine is clear to read. The text on the spine still refers to ‘PMC mono’, but the mono format was discontinued the year before. When the gate fold sleeve is opened it is super clean, white and glossy. There are NO tears, splits, pen writing, stains, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve. On the rear there are two small areas of ‘scuffing’.

THE INNER SLEEVES: are the original period, white ‘Apple copyright recording’ text inner sleeves. One sleeve is in very good++ condition. Theres NO pen writing, stickers or sticker residue to the sleeve. There is a small ‘nick’ to the back opening edge and a slight split to one of the side edges and to the bottom edge. The other sleeve is in very good+ condition. There are NO tears, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue to the sleeve. There is a split to one of the side edges and to the bottom edge and some age related marks here and there.

THE POSTER: the original poster is in near MINT condition. The poster has remained a brilliant fresh clean white. Unusually the poster is made of glossy paper. There are NO pin holes, sellotape, sellotape reside, ‘blue tac’ residue, stickers or sticker residue and no signs of any ageing to the poster.

THE PHOTOS: the original four photos are in excellent++ condition. The photo of John has some slight age related marks to the front white borders. The rear of each photo has remained clean and white. There are NO tears, pin holes, ‘blue tac’, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the photos. The photos come with the original paper spacer, this is in near excellent condition, there is a 15mm tear to one of the edges.

THE RECORDS: side one is in MINT condition, it looks like new. The condition of the playing surface has been graded under normal daylight conditions. Sides two and three are in near MINT condition, the condition of the playing surfaces have been graded under normal daylight conditions. Side four is in excellent+ condition. The two records are made from the period, thick, heavy vinyl and have remained very dark and glossy.

The matrix are: YEX 709 - 1, YEX 710 - 1, YEX 711 – 1 and YEX 712 – more unusual a ‘2’.

The mother/stampers are: ‘3 GOL’, ‘4 TR’, ‘1 RGM’ and ‘1 GHM’.

THE AUDIO: sides one, two and three play excellent+, these sides play with excellent quiet grooves. Side four plays excellent, it plays with some light crackle, a professional clean should help the audio here as the condition of the playing surface is so clean. Each record play with an impressive, full loud, powerful period stereo sound. Each record lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: each label is in near MINT condition. The labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.

TO GRADE THE CONDITION OF THE RECORD I AM USING THE OFFICIAL GRADING SYSTEM FROM THE RECORD COLLECTOR MAGAZINE.
