BEATLES UK, With the Beatles, darkest sleeve variant, original E J Day sleeve, 1st UK issue, 1963 1/1 mono matrix.

1963 PMC 1206 – original UK 1963 mono yellow and black Parlophone labels.

A first UK mono issue album from 1963 in original condition, featuring:

1. the darkest known sleeve variant, as very early sleeves were printed with a very dark and grainy front image. These ‘mis pressed’ dark and grainy images were soon corrected and replaced with a much lighter and clearer image,

2. the sleeve is made by the company, ‘E J Day’, these sleeves are harder to find as most of the sleeves for this album were made by the company, ‘Garrod and Lofthouse’. So not only is it a ‘mis pressed’, darker/grainy variant but it is made by, ‘E J Day’,

3. first 1963 UK issue mono 1/1 matrix record,

4. the record label on side two has the spelling of ‘Got a’, but on the rear of the sleeve it has been ‘mis pressed’ with the spelling of ‘Gotta’ !, for the track, ‘You really got a hold on me’. The sleeve spelling of, ‘Gotta’ was soon corrected to read ‘Got a’.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent condition, the front of the sleeve is laminated. The glossy front laminate has just two slight ‘thumb’ creases and some other slight laminate creases. The two opening edges have remained clean for their age. The spine is in excellent condition and has remained clean, white and straight and all of the text on the spine is clear to read. The un laminated rear of the sleeve has remained clean and white for its age. The rear of the sleeve features the original 1960s period, ‘tri flip back’, fold over edges design. There are NO splits, tears, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve. On the rear there is a name written in red pen.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent condition and is the original period, EMI ‘Use Emitex’ inner sleeve. The two opening edges have remained clean and unworn. The inner sleeve has remained very clean, fresh and white, a very well preserved inner sleeve. There are NO splits, tears, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the inner sleeve. There are some slight age related marks to one side.

THE RECORD: side one is in near excellent condition. Side two is in excellent condition. The record is made from the period 1960s ‘thick, heavy’ vinyl. It has remained very clean, dark and glossy.

The matrix are: XEX 447 – 1N and XEX 448 – 1N,

The mother / stampers are: ‘3 GMM’ and ‘3 GMP ’.

THE AUDIO: each side plays near excellent, it plays with some light ‘ticks’ and some light ‘crackle’ heard here and there. The record plays with a loud, powerful and full period mono sound. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: side one is in excellent condition, side two is in very good++ condition. The letters ‘KT’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side two. The labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.

THE RECORD / SLEEVES ARE THEN PUT INTO A NEW PLASTIC SLEEVE FOR FURTHER PROTECTION.
