BLACK SABBATH 1st ALBUM, ORIGINAL 1970 UK VERTIGO SWIRL

From my own personal collection I am pleased to offer an exceptional example of the brilliant debut studio album by BLACK SABBATH simply titled “BLACK SABBATH”, Catalogue Number V0 6. This is a 1970 UK STEREO 1st PRESSING on the VERTIGO SWIRL RECORD LABEL, with a superb 1st issue un-laminated KEEF designed gatefold sleeve. Complete with the correct 1st issue Vertigo Swirl inner sleeve. [The SIDE B record label has the big Vertigo Swirl logo above the spindle hole and the “VERTIGO” text below it (1st pressings only have this feature). The matrix numbers are the earliest 1Y*1 and 2Y*1].  

The sleeve is in a strong EX condition with only very light wear and a few minor creases. The front and back covers are exceptionally clean and unworn. There is a small number written on the back cover (just across and down from the crow). The spine is square and solid with perfect text. Overall this is a beautiful example of this notoriously fragile sleeve.   

The top quality Vertigo record is in EX condition. It’s a nice solid 140g pressing which retains a lovely deep mirror-like shine. There are just a few superficial rub type surface marks evident under bright light. These have no audio significance whatsoever. The Vertigo Swirl labels are like new with only a few short spindle traces each side. There is virtually no wear to the spindle hole. It is clear that the record has only received a modest number of careful plays. The sound quality of these Vertigo 1st pressings is truly something special - very powerful and vibrant with an abundance of killer guitar riffs and wonderful driving bass. Both sides play MINT- throughout. There is no discernable deterioration in sound quality and barely any unwanted noise at all. Please do not underestimate how difficult it is to find a perfect-playing 1st press copy of Sabbath’s 1st album. I’m only selling this one because I have been fortunate enough to acquire another equally fine copy.

The 1st issue Vertigo Swirl poly-lined inner sleeve is unmarked EX condition. This has no splits or tears – just some age toning.

Overall this is a superb complete 1st press copy of Sabbath’s iconic debut album which will grace any record collection.  

GRADINGS

The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega P5 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:

·         MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.

·         EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.

·         VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects but is still very presentable.

PACKAGING        

LPs are packaged with care and well protected to ensure that they arrive safely in the same condition as they leave me. Records are removed from both inner and outer sleeves in order to prevent seam-splits in transit.
