Description
For sale is a copy of Black Sabbath’s self-titled debut album, Black Sabbath.
This is an original UK 1st Pressing on the much sought-after Vertigo swirl label.
As one of the first ‘heavy rock’ albums, the debut LP from Black Sabbath helped to influence the trajectory or popular music throughout the coming decade.
It is a must own for any music fan as both a piece of cultural history as well as a fantastic album to listen to!

The matrix number identifies this as a first pressing:
· Side 1: V0 6 1Y * 1 420 13 5
· Side 2: V0 6 2Y * 1 420 12 1
This copy comes with the original sleeve and the 2nd label variation. There are several details that can be used to identify this:
· Non-laminated ‘textured’ gatefold sleeve.
· Upper-case lettering on the centrefold.
· ‘Ossie Osborne’ mis-spelling throughout.
· Vertigo label with ‘large’ vertigo above the spindle hole on the B-side.
· “Vertigo” printed underneath and slightly off-centre with respect to “Black Sabbath” on the B-side.
· No “A Phillips Record” printed on the B-side. This was present on the 1st variation.
I try to take pictures which provide a fair representation of the condition of a record and the sleeve. If interested, please read below for a detailed discussion including an audio description.
I use the Goldmine standard as a reference for grading.
Vinyl: Good +
The vinyl surface retains the original gloss sheen.
In a bizarre, one-of-a-kind error, the A-side label is stuck slightly off-centre.
The B-side label has a couple of small blemishes but otherwise it is very clean and with minimal spindle wear.
Both sides have plenty of surface marks some of which are more noticeable.
Despite this, the audio on both sides is great.
It is full of pops and crackles but these only add to the atmosphere of the crazy music.
This is a really enjoyable record to listen to.
Sleeve: Good +
The iconic gatefold sleeve looks great.
There is a strange green stain around the Vertigo symbol on the front. Unsure of the origin.
The corners, spine and edges all show subtle signs of storage wear.
The front half of the gatefold has a couple of scuffs to both sides from the removal of tape.
The rear half still has a couple of bits of tape in place.
Again, only adds to the character to the aesthetic of the album.
Inner Sleeve: Very Good
The inner sleeve is a non-original period replacement.
It is a white die-cut inner in reasonable condition.
There are plenty of creases but no writing or rips.
Also included in the sale is an audiophile quality inner sleeve which provides the best possible protection for the record.
Overall this is a great copy of a truly iconic album that would be a great addition to any record collection.
The album is housed within a premium quality polythene outer sleeve.
The vinyl will be packaged separate to the sleeve.
The album will be sent within a padded vinyl record mailer.
