READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles LP 1968 Yesterday…and Today Green Label Straight Transfer Alt Mix 1 Track, EX!

Well, VERY close to a straight transfer. 

Some collectors know that in 1968, with the introduction of the then-new black “Subsidiary of…” labels, the old templates from the previous original black labels had been used.  But simultaneous to that reissue, Capitol was also designing and introducing their new green Capitol label.  Initial pressings used the exact same template as the black “Subsidiary of…” labels, with just one minor exception.  “Recorded in England,” which did not appear on the black “Subsidiary of…” label was added to the bottom of the green Capitol label.

Otherwise, this is exactly the same label. 

By 1969, Capitol had completely reworked the font and typeset layouts for the green Target labels’ templates, which is how they remained through to 1971.

Alternate Mix: “I’m Only Sleeping.”

Collectors are well aware that the original stereo issue begins the backward guitar lead after the line, “Waiting for a sleepy feeling.”

The Record Club issue starts it overlapping the line, “Running everywhere at such a speed.”

The original mono mix starts it with the line, “Taking my time,” and allows it to play through the next line.

This mix, which is NEVER discussed, is the mono mix in stereo, starting with the line, “Taking my time.”

Vinyl--- EX/EX.  So close to NM, with just some extremely light lines per side.  Looks unplayed at first glance.

Plates--- X7/W6.  Hand-etched Delta symbol (or rifle) in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in Winchester.

Cover--- VG.  Presents a lot better, but the problem is some water damage down the mouth on the front cover.  Light yellowing and dirtwear on the back cover.  NO SPLIT SEAMS.

Labels--- NM/NM. NO SPINDLE MARKS.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG+.  Generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show is present.  Bottom seam has been Scotch taped about 3 inches.  Otherwise, it presents well.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

As an extra little treat, this copy came with two newspaper clippings, which I’ll pass along.  One is a report from People Magazine, covering McCartney’s return from a Tokyo prison in 1980, where he had spent 10 days for possession of some weed while on tour.

The other is an article with Paul, describing his first morning back home in England after his jail time.

Also for sale this week is a “Something New” Straight Transfer on the green Target label.  I bought these together many moons ago.  That copy also has the same McCartney article clipped out and included, along with another different article.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
