Description

This auction is for The Beatles - The White Album issued as a limited edition Original Master Recording LP , half-speed mastered by by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs.  Stereo Recording.  MFSL 2-072. First Japanese Pressing. Double Album Set with gatefold cover.

Released in November 1968, this double-album set  reached the #1 spot on the charts in the United Kingdom and United States. Officially released as The Beatles but usually referred to as The White Album, The Beatles is regarded as one of the greatest albums in rock history. In 2003, the album was ranked number 10 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

This was the first album by The Beatles to use Eight Track recording techniques.  Many of the songs on the album display experimentation with unlikely musical genres, borrowing directly from such sources as 1930s dance-hall music (in "Honey Pie"), classical chamber music (in "Piggies"), the avant-garde sensibilities of Yoko Ono and John Cage (in "Revolution 9"), and the sentimentality of elevator music (in "Good Night").

The album's sleeve was designed by Richard Hamilton, a notable pop artist who had organised a Marcel Duchamp retrospective at the Tate Gallery the previous year. Hamilton's design was in stark contrast to Peter Blake's vivid cover art for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and consisted of a plain white sleeve.

This limited pressing was made in Japan, using a half-speed mastering process and specially plated stampers, on heavy, thick premium virgin vinyl.   With this mint audiophile edition, you will (finally!) hear all the detail in Revolution 9: every vocal harmony, every guitar overdub, all the ambiance and every detail from the original recording studio.  This album is a must for every serious Beatles fan, every serious audiophile, and anyone who wants to hear just how good vinyl can sound.

Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab uses an album’s master tape(s) combined with a unique procedure known as "half-speed" mastering, which literally slows down the cutting system involved in mastering the vinyl so that musical information can be transferred from the source tape to the lacquer with greater precision. This advanced mastering technique adds substantial refinements in the vinyl compound itself and improves methods of plating the lacquer. The result is a significant improvement in overall performance from the vinyl medium." The vinyl records are pressed on "High Definition Super Vinyl" by the Victor Company of Japan and are then packaged in "Special Static Free Dust Free" inner sleeves with the finest heavy-duty protective packaging.
