Up for auction is this Original copy of 'The Beatles - Yesterday and Today' Paste Over Butcher Cover in MONO!!!
I am the original purchaser of this album back in the sixties when it first was released, then re-released with this paste over cover. Believe it or not, I was told then to always remove the cellophane shink wrap to prevent the record from warping, but I never believed that old warning and kept it on.
The Album's Cover:
Almost forty five years later, the shrink wrap is still attached and I can say, the vinyl LP never warped. The paste over cover remains in great condition with almost no wear, only a little light discoloration on the back near the left edge of the opening. See Photo. If you see wear in the pictures, it is most likely on the shrink wrap, not the actual album cover. The album cover itself is in excellent shape on both the front and back, the corners and all the spines surrounding the cover. All the corners are free from bumps, knocks, tears, etc. I never wrote on any of my album covers, but did attach name and address labels that I carefully cut out and Scotch taped to the cellophane shrink wrap on the binding side. See photos.
Now the things I did do:
The 'inner advertising sleeve' was removed and discarded when I bought the LP. I replaced it at that time with a plastic lined inner sleeve, sold as a 'record protector' in record stores back then. See photo. The replacement sleeve is still with the album and is included in this sale.
Also, I was always wanting my album covers to remain clean so I Scotch taped the cellophane shink wrap to the cover, but only on the inside edge of the cover opening. See photo. Elsewhere, whenever I put Scotch tape on the cover, it was always on the shrink wrap. So in the pictures, you will see 'yellowing brown' areas of the Scotch tape, but it is only on the shrink wrap, not the cover itself. See Photos. Much of the Scotch tape has dried up and have fallen off the cover leaving only the residue where it was attached.
The Vinyl Record:
The record label is black with the circular rainbow of colors on the edges. There is no mention of 'Mono' on the label. But I it is the original vinyl that came with the purchase. There is very little wear on the label itself.
The actual vinyl does have some very minor, light surface scratches. There is only one scratch across the tracks approx. 1 1/2 inches long, but it is not deep. It just is there and mentioned for accuracy. There is still a lot of shine to the surfaces and, with the exception of the already mentioned scratches, it looks to be in pretty good shape.
Now regarding the playability of this record. I have not played this record in over 30 years. It should also be noted that I do NOT have a turntable to test this record out. The record is being sold 'as is' because I do NOT know how playable it will be, nor how it will sound. If the vinyl record is the most important part of this purchase for you, please be forewarned.
