Known as the 'Butcher Cover', for obvious reasons, this was The Beatles expression of their UK releases being 'butchered' by Capitol Records
This album is no exception, with selected tracks from Help, Rubber Soul, Revolver and even a single
After initial production of thousands of covers, it was then decided that the image was too startling for general release and so a very dull, paste over photo was used to obliterate the butcher picture. Naturally, when word got out, the temptation to remove the 'slick' was irresistible, resulting in permanent damage, in many cases
1st state: original 'Butcher' sleeve / 2nd state: paste over 'Trunk' slick / 3rd state: removed 'slick'
*
The Cover
Exceptional peel, with no appreciable damage to the unprotected, original image - the white streaks and stains are nothing more than remnants of the slick and it's glue - the 'Butcher' panel underneath is in fantastic condition - the back panel has some missing paper where it may have been stuck to a wall - the spine is worn and rubbed - fluid, used to soften the glue, has produced a few warps in the cardboard
*
The Vinyl
Visual: Original, thick slab, which has slightly dulled surfaces and many light lines and marks
Audio: Despite how it looks, the whole disc plays loud and clear - random background ticks/crackle, largely overpowered by the tracks - no skips or stalls - a great copy
*
The Labels:
Original 'rainbow' rimmed - undamaged - spindle trails, both sides
*
The Inner Sleeve
The original inner is missing
