This handsome and rare LP from RCA (RB-16028, UK pressing, red/silver label, mono – no stereo edition exists, laminated flipback jacket) features the young Byron Janis in a truly magnificent all-Chopin recital, warmly recorded at Town Hall, New York, in August 1952.

The exact contents are as follows:

Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor Op. 35 "Funeral March"

Impromptu No. 1 in A-flat Major Op. 29

Nocturne No. 8 in D-flat Major Op. 27 No. 2

Etude No. 5 in G-flat Major OP. 10 No. 5 “Black Key”

Mazurka No. 45 in A minor Op. 67 No. 4

Scherzo No. 3 in C minor Op. 39

This is exalted playing by any measure and all those who treasure the art of the piano will find much to admire here.

There are informative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by James Lyons – printed in English only. The memorable cover photo of Janis was taken by Dan Wynn.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is minor corner wear and light discoloration, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and attractive – overall, an excellent collector’s copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not silent, really this is a fine copy and the playback is enjoyable. If you must have a flawless or near-mint copy, then please do not buy this album. Overall, this LP rates as an excellent collector's copy.
