JOHN LEE HOOKER LP THE COUNTRY BLUES OF JOHN LEE HOOKER (Riverside Records RLP 12-838) Released 1959.
Early silver & blue Deep Groove Riverside label. 13 excellent blues numbers in the original mono. Side A begins with "Black Snake" & continues with "She's Long, She's Tall & She Weeps Like a Willow Tree. Oddly, the label lists this album as "The Folk Blues of John Lee Hooker," but it is commonly called "The Country Blues of John Lee Hooker." The disc itself is in really fine condition. The front cover is nice to look at & has no major blemishes. A creation of Bill Grauer Productions, New York City. Recorded in Detroit in April 1959. Engineered & mastered by Bill Hevron & Jack Masters. Interesting liner notes by Orrin Keepnews. Our copy came from the original owner, who took very good care of these albums. We will be listing more great blues rarities from this collection shortly. Very fine reflective sheen on the grooves. Pressed on a thick heavy slab of wax with sturdy, high-quality cover. (Etched matrix: "RLP-12-838 A/B").
COVER - VERY GOOD
Cover has no ink spills, puncture holes, writing, bubbles, price tags or stickers. Very nice color tone. Three inches of tidy seam split on top edge. Tape residue along four inches of the top edge & six inches of the bottom edge. On the front, this residue is quite faint & not a serious visual detriment. The residue is more noticeable on the back. Very little ring wear. Flat cover with no bends, creases, waves or bowing. Small amount of corner banging. Small amount of rubbing or scuffing. Except for the worn selection number at the top, the spine is fully readable & is slighty dented. Label looks quite nice: free of stains, marks, scuffs, cuts & writing. Sharp-cut hole with some faint transparent spindle brushings.
DISC - NEAR MINT
No scratches, skips, streaking or residue on the disc or dead wax. Two or three faint, brief hairline flecks here and there. Some faint, shallow inaudible pits of a sixteenth of an inch or so. The disc still exudes a nice surface sheen. Free of chips, cracks & warping. The thick platter holds its sound better than a cheaper modern pressing.
