Description

An original '72 UK RCA 1st of the MAN WHO (in this format) from shortly after the time Bowie signed to RCA. Matrix 1E/1E. Do bear in mind this material actually originates from 18mths earlier and is available on much more expensive Philips/Mercury 1st issue format. Labels mention 'Titanic Publishing' as you would expect to find on the earliest RCA. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original cover which DOES NOT exhibit the 'Mainman' logo in the top right on the rear. Again - this is a pointer to an early copy. We also have the original bespoke inner and 90% of the poster too.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In great condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of slight marks per side. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with one deviation. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. A lot of fussy acoustic sections on this title and spoken word passages. So, a clean signal is imperative on this title. A couple of crackles on the slow build into 'Madman'...nothing much really. This is one of the best sounding examples of this title I've witnessed. The mind just boggles as to how he didn't make it big earlier. He had to wait for Stardust in '72 for the big break through. But the genius is so obviously apparent in 70 & 71... An absolute pleasure to listen to. All I can detect is 7-8 low in the mix ticks at the start of the quiet run intro 'Running Gun Blues'. This clears out before the acoustic guitar comes in and the song gets into gear properly. There are plenty of reissues to snag out there [admittedly]...but they're never really going to hold a candle to a nice early heavy copy. MWSTW track is just fantastic in every way. VERY acoustic...how many copies will deliver this level of fidelity?   Cover (Vg+) A total pain to find in anything approaching decent condition. Take a look elsewhere on line and you will see vividy what i mean! But this example, thankfully, is looking very tidy indeed. First thing notable is that there's not much sign of the usual surface wear that is so usually apparent on this title. A couple of thumbnails and a diagonal crease line over on the left side. Now, this crease is surface level - it's not structural [or reducing cover rigidity]. One age spot on Bowie's chin on the rear. Very little edge wear and sharp openings. The spine is 99% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Ex-) Slight wear..it is fragile. And amaing...NO SPLITS! minimal ageing.
Poster (Vg+) In very nice condition with a couple of small punctures. Most obvious issue is the bottom left corner cut.
