Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 albums that I have acquired over a period of more than 45 years! Purchased from new and I don't remember having played this, it certainly looks in barely played condition, (Barely a hint of handful of spider trails only) The album has always been stored in a case with the cover separated from the vinyl and sleeve for protection. This is how I have always stored my records!

The raraty and collectability about this album is that this features translucent vinyl very very rare to find in this condition and hardly ever turn up like this on this album,, also has obviously barely ever been played by me only just to record the album for you to hear in the player below, , very, very rare and scarce to ever find after 42 years!
The original and correct 1st UK issue gate fold cover is in exceptional condition, complete with the original two booklets and large poster. Note: I have fully play tested the vinyl and recorded this for you to hear for your self in the player below, At very loud volume prior to listing The audio is very clear and vibrant throughout without signs of any distortion what so ever, I have graded the audio asvery near mint as I heard it in my opinion! No Needle scratches or Marks that would cause any nasty loud constant clicks or pops! (Note: very minor isolated static/ticks heard in isolated places only)
Basically this album is a real beauty and rare to find like this!
An Audio Archive Copy!

Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy is a 1975 album by Elton John. It is John's ninth studio album.

The album is an autobiographical account of the early musical careers of Elton John (Captain Fantastic) and Bernie Taupin (the Brown Dirt Cowboy).

It was released in May 1975 by MCA in America and DJM in the UK. It debuted at number 1 on the US Billboard 200, the first album to do so, and stayed in that position for seven weeks.

It was certified gold in May 1975 and was certified platinum and 3x platinum in March 1993 by the RIAA. In Canada, it also debuted at number 1 on the RPM national Top Albums chart and only broke a run of what would have been fifteen consecutive weeks at the top by falling one position to number 2 in the ninth week (31 May–6 September). On the UK Albums Chart.

Written, according to lyricist Bernie Taupin, in chronological order, Captain Fantastic is a concept album that gives an autobiographical glimpse at the struggles John (Captain Fantastic) and Taupin (the Brown Dirt Cowboy) had in the early years of their musical careers in London (from 1967 to 1969), leading up to John's eventual breakthrough in 1970.

The lyrics and accompanying photo booklet are infused with a specific sense of place and time that would otherwise be rare in John's music. John composed the music on a ship voyage from the UK to New York.

"Someone Saved My Life Tonight", the only single released from the album (and a number 4 hit on the US Pop Singles chart), is a semi-autobiographical story about John's disastrous engagement to Linda Woodrow, and his related 1968 suicide attempt.

The "Someone" refers to Long John Baldry, who convinced him to break off the engagement rather than ruin his music career for an unhappy marriage.

It was viewed by Rolling Stone writer Jon Landau as the best track on the album: "As long as Elton John can bring forth one performance per album on the order of 'Someone Saved My Life Tonight', the chance remains that he will become something more than the great entertainer he already is and go on to make a lasting contribution to rock.

The intricate cover art was designed by pop artist Alan Aldridge, drawing fantastic imagery from the Medieval painting "The Garden of Earthly Delights" by Hieronymus Bosch. The original LP package included a "Lyrics" booklet with an uncompleted lyric for "Dogs in the Kitchen" that was not on the album's line-up, and another booklet called "Scraps," which collected snippets of reviews, diary entries and other personal memorabilia of John and Taupin during the years chronicled on the album. It also contained a poster of the album's cover. These were reproduced, in smaller versions, for the 2005 Deluxe Edition CD. Limited edition copies were pressed on brown vinyl.

In 1976, Bally released a Capt. Fantastic pinball machine with artwork by Dave Christensen of Elton John in his "pinball wizard" character from the movie Tommy. In 1977, Bally released a "home model" version with artwork by Alan Aldridge.

The Vinyl

The vinyl is of a substantial weight compared to later press which are much more flimsier! Note: Only a few of the earliest pressings feature the translucent red vinyl, noticed when held up to the light. These are rare to find in decent condition. On initial inspection of the playing surface has retained its original sheen from new and indeed looks almost like it did the day that it came from the shop in my opinion, and lays perfectly flat on the turntable. (Please note! I have double checked this, no warping) This is free of any warping. (Note: When looking at the vinyl to the light, I notice a couple very small what look like light surface scuffs/scratches. I find it hard to see any real other nasty surface marks or scratches), importantly No nasty needle scratches,  Importantly no marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops during the audio that I heard! No Distortion Stunning Top Audio Quality! ( Hear for yourself in the player above) Any other marks that there could possibly be would be light whispy sleeve removal scuff type only.

Quite unbelievable to find after 42  years!

 The Audio Quality

I have played this vinyl two  times prior to listing, at very loud volume on a top system, This 42 year old vinyl plays through almost as good as a new vinyl would in my opinion! Just listen to the separation and the clarity! The audio is absolutely beautiful, crystal clear and very vibrant with that deep bassey feel , only found like this on these earliest originals! Note: isolated light static ticks and isolated crackle only worth to mention. That's all! I heard (no) loud contant clicks or pops during the audio and amazingly no real surface or background static during the main audio and importantly no distortion or signs that this has been overplayed at all! There are Certainly no skips or jumps! Even in between tracks this is lovely, quite unbelievable to find like this after 42 years!  ,, This plays without the usual background surface noise that is so often heard on these early pressings.  Importantly No problems heard during the main audio at all) I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to very near mint throughout for the most part! (isolated interferance/static ticks only as mentioned below)

An audiophile Audio archive copy never need to upgrade in my opinion!

Hear for your self in the player above, actual recording from the vinyl!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality of this album and those who know the listings and vinyls that I sell my prime interest is the audio quality! Please allow for the odd isolated static crackle /tick/ticks , but nothing heard consistent  through out the audio! No Loud constant clicks or pops! This is a genuine (not) reissue vinyl that is 42 years old and would have been played on a system that is 42 years old! Audio is superb in my opinion.

Please note, this album has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 42 years or more. A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static\ crackle. A constant clean before each play is recommended. This will reduce any static and will enhance the audio quality. Points to note, I notice debrit on the playing surface after play so this will need cleaning before each play which will further enhance this audio quality.

The Labels

This is the original custom DJM Picture Labels!  (correct for this 1975 pressing) A truly unique becoming scarce copy in lovely barely played condition!

There is (no) spindle ware (the hole is perfectly round) see photo.  Amazingly No Nasty Spidering can be seen in strong light, perhapes just minimal feint spider trails may just be seen only so rare to find like this! In my opinion this looks barely played at all!

The Record Sleeve

This is a plain white paper record sleeve no edge splits or tears.  light staining/browning/creasing with age only.  Made In England and Patented   The vinyl is always stored separately from the cover and record sleeve for protection. This is how I always store my records.

The Cover with Booklets

This is the original 1st UK issue Gate fold cover printed in England by Shorewood Packaging Ltd.. Unlaminated and originals are very prone to rubbing and edge wear.. There is no nasty creases on the cover worth to mention. Any indents/marks/rubbing/crease lines you have to look for to notice in my opinion. The inside is nice and clean. All text is readable and no nasty handwriting or names written.  (See Photos) Any storage wear noted is very light, minor marks, minor rubbing on the cover and at the spine edge corners but not really noticed unless looked for in my opinion.  I would grade this cover at least excellent to excellent plus in my opinion.

The Booklets

This album is complete with both booklets. Both booklets are fully intact and complete. Minor wear/creasing/foxing with age only.

The large poster

This is complete with the original glossy large poster. Note there are some corner folds noted. this has never been used, displayed or put on a wall.
