Description
Here is an original 1965 studio acetate containing an unknown, earlier and completely different version of “A Dog’s Life” than the cheesy rendition that appeared in the film Paradise, Hawaiian Style the following year. This one has totally different lyrics, a nice punchy arrangement and is actually a catchy, nicely played rockabilly tune. The disc is dated June 22, 1965, and includes the original set of sheet music and lyrics. Evidently, even the name of the film hadn’t been settled at that point, as the labels and sheet music identify it variously as "Hawaiian Paradise" and “Polynesian Paradise.” The disc is 10” and plays at 33 rpm. It’s in excellent condition and played beautifully with a touch of background crackle at the very start. From the collection of a West Coast music industry executive. Listen below!
