EXCELLENT ALL ROUND!
This is a lovely, original copy, in superb condition, of a First Press and First Release of Fairport Convention's First LP, being ''What We Did On Our Holidays.
It is in Stereo as all Fairport's releases were and is also on the famous and now rarer Solid Pink Island Label, with the unusual Orange and Black 'EYE' logo, to the left of the label, with the ubiquitous Black witch on her broomstick, above the group's name, on the right of the label.
This is FIRST PRESS, do not be mislead by simple Pink Island Labels or even the Black Eye only: it MUST BE as this is, which is ORANGE & BLACK ''EYE'' ON SOLID PINK and with out Mothers or Stampers, being one of one of one, namely: Lacquer, Mother & Stamper! If you need clarification of what these terms are, please ask or check the terms out on the internet and also check out Island label variations, to see where this lies!
It has those sought after First Press Matrices, with simply ILPS+9092+A & ILPS+9092+B and unlike later pressings, has no Mothers or Stampers marked, thus one of each and an obvious First!
The vinyl is in lovely condition, with very little in the way of rubs or surface marks and I would suggest this to be in Excellent Condition, with careful playing (by me!) with deep lustre to the record and that super, heavy weight press1960s pressing! Its spindle areas are clean, and show limited rubs, and no paper de-lamination, again proving fairly limited, careful play.
It does have a name, neatly written above the title on the side two label, as can be seen, but, then, this was not at all unusual in the days of vinyl and I did this myself on many records. I bought this LP from my friend in 1969 and I know he barely played it, and we were both from just outside Cropredy and it was in Banbury that we would see Fairport Convention, at the local folk club! I played it sparingly and cared for it, so it has pedigree and much more!
The fully laminated Earnest J Day sleeve is superb, too and this mist be Excellent Plus and has no damage, no writing, no names, initials and no signs of obvious wear, just tiny, tiny signs on the corners. This LP has just been stored and as with most in a personal library, kept brilliantly.
It has the plain white, crisp inner with the usual Patents Pending and is not split at all.
I have not played this or cleaned it for many years and will leave any cleaning to the buyer, but it looks dust free, and not at all in need of a clean, but then that is up to the individual.
A very nice, highly collectable LP, well looked after and a treasure to have! There is a low start to this LP, so good luck to you all with bidding, as it is a very nice copy and RARE!
