The "CHORAL" SYMPHONY
ORCHESTRA AND CHORUS OF THE 1951 BAYREUTH FESTIVAL
conducted by WILHELM FURTWANGLER
HMV ANGEL AHA 13 & 14 equivalent to ALP 1286-7
GRADED VG / EX-
This is a very rare 2 record set of Wilhelm Furtwangler conducting the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra in 1951.This is an English pressing by EMI on the Angel label which is exactly the same as the ALP recordings. Presumably these Angel imprints were for export. These early 1950's records were housed in polythene bag inners which seem to affect the vinyl over time. Both records look near mint even under strong light as do the labels which show very little sign of having been played. Unfortunately being stored in plastic inners for nearly 60 years has affected the sound quality as there is a fairly constant low level crackle and also some distortion to the higher frequencies. The quiet passages sound great though. I am sure these records would really benefit from a deep groove clean. Record 1 sleeve has the top flipback taped which is very hard to spot and some laminate lift in places. Record 2 sleeve just has some laminate lift, a slight surface scuff to the front and some very light general wear. Still a very rare and sought after recording.INTERNATIONAL SIGNED FOR POSTAGE WILL BE £10.00
