The GSOE completed two albums for Harvest which displayed a strong compositional skill as well as an imaginative use of brass and are lost gems of the era. They enjoyed a brief popularity in Europe following the success of the single, ‘Real Cool World’, but the Greatest Show On Earth found little favour at home and broke up in 1971. Norman Watt-Roy then formed Glencoe and later became a member of Ian Dury’s Blockheads. This is the very first pressing with A-1/B-2 matrices and the earliest 1-A & 1-R stampers of the first few hundred copies pressed, with no EMI credits on the labels!
The front laminated gatefold sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some light corner wear and very light laminate rubbing on the outer cover, but the rear cover has a bent lower corner with a couple of laminate creases. The spine is intact and fully readable, the Harvest company inner is intact, but yellowed & in VG+ condition. The record is in visually EX condition, with a couple of faint sleeve removal hairlines and one or two small bag scuffs visible under bright light on each side. The labels are in EX condition, clean & bright with evidence of a couple of faint spindle markings on each side and a small sticker mark on side 2. The sound reproduction is EX, still clear & precise throughout with no loud pops, hiss or crackle & definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some low background noise during the run in grooves and briefly in a couple of the quieter passages, overall a really great, loud and punchy listen!! The matrix nos. are; SHVL-783, A-1 stamper 1-A, B-2 stamper 1-R. This is one of the very early pressings of the original 1970 UK stereo 1st issue of this album! All records are checked on an Acoustic Research deck before being listed and any flaws noted in the listing, so if you have any problems with the record please contact me for a full refund of original price & postage on return of the record (no partial refunds), no quibbles, no problems!! All grades are those used in the Record Collector Guide. All lp's are sent in cardboard record mailers with plastic covers and cardboard stiffeners to protect the LP's!! UK Signed For Postage is £4.50 for the first LP & is the same for up to four single LP's or two double LP's or more up to 2 KG!,
