Visual vinyl grading is done under strong lighting and based on the Goldmine standard, as follows:
“M” Mint - a near perfect, unplayed, or sealed record.
“NM” Near Mint - close to perfect, possibly a very faint mark or sleeve shadows.
EX+ - May have several very faint hairline marks or other faint marks and/or heavier sleeve shadows, with near-new gloss.
EX - a carefully used, reasonable copy. Shows slight signs of wear, and still retains nice gloss.
VG+ - more light surface scratch marks, little loss of gloss, mark(s) which may be felt.
VG - Heavier surface marks, some scratches which can be felt, but no deep gouges. Record has received less care in handling.
G - Heavy wear, heavy swirls/hairlines, feelable scratches, lack of gloss, not handled carefully.
