LOST 16” VINYL lot of 11 Armed Forces Radio-tv Service 16” Transcription Records, Lost and then FOUND vinyl collection, truly remarkable about the collection, though, is that they never should have been there to begin with.
"I think it's great that they didn't end up in a dumpster, again they are large 16” and may not fit on a standard turntable. They appear to be in good condition with some minor scuffs, I have no way to test them but again they look very good, no warping and I feel that after a quick wipe with a proper vinyl cleaner would do wonders. I’ll list a few names I recognize such as: PAUL ANKA, FRANKIE AVALON, JOHNNY CASH, BOBBY HELMS, BORIS KARLOFF FROM “DUFFY’S TAVERN” extremely rare lost collection that was never meant for the public until now.
These rare Armed Forces Radio Service transcriptions were discovered during the renovation of Of a home in upstate N.Y. Wedged in the back of the dark closet. They were in a box seperated by paper. They were used In order to bring "a touch of home" to servicemembers all over the world, the organization sent transcriptions to all its affiliates, Because the 16-inch records were produced under special licensing agreements with the government stipulating that the music would never be sold or played on commercial airwaves, I believe these albums to be from th 1950s and 60s AFN recalled all the records when it switched to audio cassettes in the mid 1980s.
Those that were not returned weren't supposed to survive.
"Most all the stations have destroyed these most of these rare albums Not all of the estimated 25,000 albums that would make up the entire AFRS library still exist in national archives.
AFN employees are hoping that this and other collections might help fill some of the gaps.
