Description
Original 1950s John Coltrane LP entitled, "Blue Train." This is on the Blue Note label BLP-1577. The 'deep groove' labels have the 47 West 63rd Street address on both sides as well as New York 23 on side 2. Both sides have the RVG stamper and 'ear' marking in the trailoff. These are all consistent with the true, first pressing of this LP. The very thick, heavy vinyl is a clean good with full gloss. Visually, the record shows only the lightest, most minor signs of wear. I would have graded it a bit higher, but it does skip about 3 or 4 times during the song "Locomotion." Other than that, both sides play very nicely with a minimum of clicks and pops throughout. It's mostly a real strong, enjoyable player. The cover grades good to very good also. Both sides display very well. The spine and top seam are both split about 3/4 of the way across; the bottom seam is not split at all. There is also some old dried tape residue along the left edge. Certainly not great condition, but not terrible either. Please review the photos.
Note: I play these older, heavier, “wider-grooved” LPs with a regular Stanton stylus tracked at 1.5 grams. I do this for two reasons: First, they sound better. Secondly, I find if I use too fine an audiophile stylus, there tends to be more surface noise present and the sound is actually weaker. These older LPs were intended to be played with a regular sylus anyway. Depending on what type of setup you use, you may get slightly lesser--or slightly better--results than me.
