Description
Up for auction is a beautiful copy of the John Coltrane album "Coltrane Live At Birdland" released on Impulse Records (A-50) in 1964. This is an original stereo pressing with "VanGelder" stamped in the dead wax. Original heavy laminated gatefold cover comes with original Impulse factory paper inner sleeve.
Cover is in fantastic condition, with very few signs of previous handling or wear. Lamination retains its high gloss finish with no ring wear, tears, or separations. Spine is tight and intact, no creasing signs of having been opened repeatedly. Corners are generally sharp though the upper right and lower left have been slightly dinged, but not so much to distract from the overall attractiveness of the cover. Seams are tight, clean, no chipping. I'd grade the cover Near Mint (NM).
The vinyl is in really nice shape, doesn't looked played or handled much at all, if any. No obvious scratches or scuffs. Retains its original high gloss sheen. No marks around the spindle holes indicating little previous wear or play. Perhaps some faint and superficial signs on the vinyl from having been taken out of the paper inner sleeve a few times for inspection. Side One looks like it has a faint adhesion mark from the inner sleeve on the final cut, and there is a faint superficial mark on the run-out groove and does not affect play back. Labels are clean and bright, no marks around spindle holes, to rubbing loss. There is a crease line on one label that was caused in the factory, but it's minor and not distracting. Overall, a very clean copy of this record, and I'd grade the vinyl Near Mint Minus (NM-).
It's not likely you'll ever have to up grade this copy of this Coltrane classic. Beautiful inside and out. Blistering performances, a very intense listening experience.
