Description

An original 1st press of PEARL on the  UK CBS label from 1971. Matrix A1/B1 - very 1st cut. Please note genuine 1st copies exhibit a few credit errors. The obvious one which stands out is on CRY BABY which is creditted to 'Russel & Meade'...when it should in fact be 'Ragavoy-Berns'. They seem to have got it correct on the cover, but the 1st labels seem to carry this error. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original Shorewood Packaging cover with 'patents pending'. Also included is an original poly-lined inner sleeve from the time. So, 100% complete and 100% genuine.
Vinyl (Vg/Vg+) Still in very nice condition despite having seen a moderate level of use. We can make out a number of light marks each side and some superficial scuffing in a couple of spots - nothing apparently heavy or sinister. If you need a really clean looking copy perhaps this isn't the one for you. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly VERYGOOD+ level of playback. Do expect a bit of light static crackle in parts - this is not a super clean rendition. But for the most part the audio delivery is very nice with not all that much to complain about. A couple of tracks per side, perhaps, show a little elevated crackle - but nothing invasive [example Left Lonely & Bobby McGee]. Otherwise a cracking rendition once again amply demonstrated why Janis was the cream of the crop.
Cover (Vg) In very decent condition without major issue. Nice clean front without surface wear - just a few stress creases at the edges. The rear is ok, but expect a bit of creasing directly above the three band members sitting down. There's a bit of edge wear in places, and on the spine obscuring some of the text. Overall the cover retains verygood rigidity.
Inner (Ex-) Lightest ageing. No splits.
