Sought-after Jasper Johns art cover lp (from his 1955 painting Green Target) with a great selection of Japanese composer Takemitsu's experimental works, featuring Seiji Ozawa conducting the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Yuji Takahashi playing piano. Asterism involves many non-traditional playing techniques such as the rubbing of a comb on percussion devices and the use of a double-bass bow on Chinese gongs. Dorian Horizon is a spatial work that separates the players on and off the stage.

Takemitsu was trained as a guitarist, earned praise and encouragement from Stravinsky early in his career, and became influenced by John Cage, Morton Feldman, Earle Brown, Webern, Messiaen, and Debussy; his compositions combined traditional Japanese music with avant garde western techniques such as electronic music, indeterminacy, graphic notation, and serialism, he is associated with the school of early electronic composers in Japan that included Yuji Takahashi, Makoto Moroi, Yori-Aki Matsudaira, Minao Shibata, Toshiro Mayuzumi, Michael Ranta, and Karlheinz Stockhausen, and he scored dozens of films working with legendary Japanese directors Masaki Kobayashi, Hiroshi Teshigahara, Masahiro Shinoda, and Akira Kurosawa. • Takahashi is a Japanese pianist and composer who studied under Xenakis, collaborated with John Zorn, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Musica Elettronica Viva (MEV), Ned Rothenberg, and Carl Stone, and also worked with Toshi Ichiyanagi, Kenji Kobayashi, John Cage, Earle Brown, Roger Reynolds, and Toru Takemitsu. • Jasper Johns is an American painter and printmaker who worked with Robert Rauschenberg, Merce Cunningham, and John Cage; he is associated with Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, James Rosenquist, Joseph Beuys, George Maciunas, Claes Oldenburg, and the Abstract Expressionism, Neo-Dada, and Pop Art movements. • Should be of interest to Broken Music collectors.
