Live at the Village Vanguard was recorded in 1961 by John Coltrane and his quintet, who are equally as inspiring and vital as Coltrane himself. It was produced by the legendary Bob Thiele and recorded over multiple nights. It is just one of several engagements at the Vanguard for Coltrane, which became central in his ongoing partnership with Eric Dolphy, who lends his bass clarinet talents for this session. One side of the original LP was devoted to "Chasin' The Trane," which is considered by some to be one of the most important performances of Coltrane's career.
