Description

John Lee Hooker - The Very Best Of - Buddah Records BDS-4002 Stereo Vinyl NM Shrink. Only played on Dual 1219 turntable with Shure elliptical cartridge using 0.75 gm tracking force; stopped playing when CDs were introduced and stored vertically to prevent warping. John Lee Hooker was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi in 1915 and was raised there and in Memphis. He settled in Detroit in 1943 supporting himself taking odd jobs and playing in taverns and clubs along Hastings Street. John Lee Hooker was playing guitar around 12 and was greatly influenced by great blues guitarists of the time who cane to visit his step-father who was also a musician. He was spotted by a talent scout from West Coast-based Modern Records while playing at a tavern in Detroit and recorded his first disc featuring Sallie May and Boogie Chillen. His career skyrocketed from there under a large number of labels issued under a variety of pseudonyms.
