EXCEEDINGLY RARE VINYL LP, A SAMPLER MADE FOR IN-STORE PLAY IN 1978. "Wherehouse Albums of the Week," 9/28 - 10/4/78. A sampler of the KISS solo albums, plus Michael Jackson and Diana Ross in "The Wiz" with record-store specific spoken introductions.
Wherehouse was a chain of record stores in California. For a while, they produced records for play in their stores: these include an announcer's voice introducing the tracks and declaring the sale price of the records that week. I worked at one of the stores in Los Angeles (that's the reason I have this disc): I don't remember how many stores were in the chain at the time, but I'd guess they pressed fewer than 100 copies of these, and that very few of those have survived.
This LP features all four of the Kiss Solo LP's, plus Michael Jackson and Diana Ross performing "The Wiz."
This record did get some in-store play during the featured week, though it hasn't been played since. That is, until I auditioned it before listing it on Ebay. It has surface noise on the early bands near the lip of the record. But that quickly calms down and the music seems to be all there. My quick audition (not a complete play-through) did not reveal any skipping or severe problems.
A copy of this record in any condition would complement any KISS or Michael Jackson collection. This must be one of the rarest LPs of either of their careers (Diana Ross', too, for that matter). I have been able to find evidence online of only one other copy of this LP that has come to market; it sold on Ebay for about $600 in 2017.
The LP appears clean but exhibits some wear as noted above. The original white cardboard sleeve is clean and unmarked. There is no inner sleeve (that's original, too: since these were made to be disposed of after a week of in-store play, they didn't come with inner sleeves).
The record will be well packaged and shipped in a rigid LP mailer.
