In this group are three members of the same family; Oma, Bessie, and Hurstle Lawson. The Lawsons and also Ernest Hamby, who writes many Gospel hits and sings baritone with the quartet, were born and reared in the hills of East Tennessee. Freddie Herring, a minister of the Gospel, was born in Georgia, having spent much of his life in Wyoming. He is now pianist for this popular group of inspirational entertainers and is also heard on the organ in some selections on this album, such as: The Prettiest Flowers and Lord, I’m Coming H ome One of the most requested numbers among these songs of inspiration is “I’ve Been To Calvary”, featuring the voice of Freddie Herring, along with the harmo- nizing of Ernest Hamby and Bessie Lawson.
