released c. 1935 by Rca Victor Red Seal # C-25

Original (4) 12-Inch 78 rpm Album featuring baritone
Lawrence Tibbett and soprano Helen Jepson with Chorus
and Orchestra performing selections from Porgy and Bess by
Gershwin & this 1935 album of the Opera was recorded just
days after opened on Broadway on October 10, 1935 and
this set is in Excellent Condition & all sounds great
and comes in a nice heavy duty illustrated album

it would be another five years before Decca would
release an album of the songs from this classic opera
making this Victor set the earliest release we know of
making it also the hardest to come by & we've
never seen this set in such nice condition

contains Victor records 11878-11881 and these
performances were directed by Alexander Smallens
under the supervision of George Gershwin

~ condition ~


in Excellent Condition & has all been fully play tested
and sounds great with no skips or repeats & the records
play with just typical light 78rpm surface noise & are very
shiny & clean with only very light wear & has no cracks
or chips but does have a few very small needle drop marks
which cause brief tics but nothing too bad & the records
have bright clean labels with no writing or markings

cover is also in Very Good + Condition with bold
printing & is fully intact with no splitting or bad damage
but does have some light wear around the edges & to
the corners & the spine is a little faded & there is also a
little evidence of soiling/staining to the bottom edge
which is more noticeable on the back of the cover
but overall this still displays really nicely

displays & plays nicely!
