This handsome LP – a fine collector's copy – from Nixa (HLP 1047, English pressing, red/gold label, flipback jacket) features a very fine pressing of what is a great rarity on disc – Louis Cahuzac's recording of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A Major K. 622, made Denmark in 1952 with conductor Mogens Wöldike and the Chamber Orchestra of the Danish State Radio.

Filling out the disc is Franz Litschauer's equally compelling account of Haydn's Symphony No. 6 in D Major "Le Matin", made in 1951 with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra.

This fine issue was made in cooperation with the Haydn Society of Boston and arguably offers a superior pressing to the US release.

Reviewing a Danacord 2CD release devoted to Cahuzac's artistry, the wonderfully erudite critic Jonathan Woolf wrote for MusicWeb-Interanational:

"Cahuzac was famed for his Mozart. The Concerto is the famous 1952 Haydn Society LP with Mogens Wöldike and this classic can be heard in nice, forward sound without scuffing. The tone is very Gallic and the temper of the performance lovely throughout. Cahuzac's aristocracy is devoid of sentimentality and show, but full of fluidity and finely centred subtly variegated tonal resources. It will not appeal to those brought up on Reginald Kell's more overtly expressive performances, so rich in vibrato and candour, who may find it rather 'straight'. A broad church can accommodate a variety of approaches from musicians of differing backgrounds and aesthetics."

There are excellent liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in English only. The cover design is similarly uncredited.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is minor edgewear and slight creasing, but really that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the jacket remains perfectly solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, this rates as a truly fine collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT (Mozart) / VERY GOOD (Haydn). Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, and there is more surface noise in the Haydn, really this is a fine copy and the playback is enjoyable. Those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is a very good to excellent collector's copy.
