This handsome and rare 2LP set from Pathé · Vox (PL 8192, French pressing, green/silver Pathe label, mono – no stereo edition exists, long album format) features pianist Alexandre Borovsky’s magnificent accounts of Bach’s Six French Suites BWV 812-817, recorded circa 1952. Borovsky plays with a disarming simplicity that calls to mind the artistry of Horszowski.

To my knowledge, these remarkable performances have never been re-issued in any format.

Included then are the following works of Bach:

French Suite No. 1 D minor BWV 812

French Suite No. 2 in C minor BWV 813

French Suite No. 3 in B minor BWV 814

French Suite No. 4 in E-flat Major BWV 815

French Suite No. 5 in G Major BWV 816

French Suite No. 6 in E Major BWV 817

Incidentally, the striking cover design was executed by Herschel Levit. The superlative liner notes were written by future Mercury producer extraordinaire Harold Lawrence, and are printed in French only.

PLEASE NOTE:

This set, though consisting of 2 LPs, is quite heavy. The LPs themselves, must be 200 g pressings, and both are held in a long, heavy gatefold album. Boxed for shipment, the set will exceed 1 kg in weight, meaning that outside of Europe, shipping will be no less than $35.00. This has been factored into the price.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the cloth box box is VERY GOOD. There is edgewear, shelfwear, more so at corners, and some discoloration, but that is all. However, the inner-bound sleeves are free of seamsplits, and the whole remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the 2 LPs itself is EXCELLENT. There is light surface noise throughout, but in general the playback remains quite fine. However, those wanting a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
