Zuma is the seventh studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young, released on Reprise Records in 1975.

Co-credited to Crazy Horse, it includes "Cortez the Killer," one of Young's best-known songs. It peaked at #25 on the Billboard 200, and has been certified a gold record by the RIAA

The death of guitarist and bandmate Danny Whitten from a drug overdose in 1972 affected Young greatly, and left the Crazy Horse band without its leader and songwriter.

Young went out on tour in late 1973 with a band dubbed the Santa Monica Flyers, composed of the Crazy Horse rhythm section of bassist Billy Talbot and drummer Ralph Molina along with guitarist Nils Lofgren, who had played on Crazy Horse's debut album, and multi-instrumentalist Ben Keith, this group recording most of the tracks for what would be his Tonight's the Night album.

After the 1974 stadium tour with Crosby, Stills & Nash and another abandoned attempt at the second CSNY studio album, Young formed a new version of Crazy Horse in 1975 with guitarist Frank Sampedro slotted in alongside Talbot and Molina. This line-up first appeared on this album, and has remained stable to the present day.

Zuma was the first album released after the famed Ditch Trilogy, comprising the albums Time Fades Away, and On the Beach, and Tonight's the Night. Young wrote most of the songs in Zuma during his time living on Sea Level Drive in Malibu, California.  though "Through My Sails," originally entitled "Sailboat Song," derives from the spring 1974 rehearsals with CSNY, featuring the quartet on vocals and "Pardon My Heart" was recorded around the same period, originally intended to be released as part of Homegrown.

The melody and lyrics of "Don't Cry No Tears" are partially derived from "I Wonder", a song Young wrote in high school which appeared in his Archives in 2009. Young has claimed during a show in 1996 that he'd also written "Cortez the Killer" in high school while suffering "Montezuma's Revenge."

The song ends with a fade out because the original cut stopped abruptly due to a power surge, and a final verse Young had written was not recorded. Young's reaction to hearing of this was, "I never liked that verse anyway", and it has never been performed live.

"Danger Bird" interpolates sections of an unreleased song relating to Young's breakup with Carrie Snodgress called "L.A. Girls and Ocean Boys", specifically the line "'Cause you've been with another man / there you are and here I am."[6] Lou Reed once told an interviewer that he felt Young had become a "great guitarist" during this period, specifically citing "Danger Bird" as an example.

The Vinyl
On initial visual inspection the vinyl looks superb and I can't see or feel any scratches or marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops at all! Any marks that could possibly be seen would be light whypsy surface scuffs and sleeve removal type only.. Amazingly,  This lays perfectly flat on the turntable and are free from any warping. (Note! I have double checked this) The vinyl looks superb, still retaining its original glossy sheen from new. Only In strong light could possibly any or very (very) few surface marks be seen caused by the vinyl been slid in and out of its sleeve. Note: (no) deep needle scratches that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops at all!

The Audio Quality
I have played the vinyl prior to listing on a top system at very loud volume! The audio is superbe cristal clear and very vibrant throughout! Top audio seperation on all frequencies only heard like this on early original 1st pressings! Note! Please allow for the odd isolated static/tick/perhapes heard in run ins or quieter place only.  Importantly there were no loud constant clicks/ticks, pops or any jumps truly awesome and very rare for a 1st pressing. The audio is graded at Excellent Plus to very Near Mint in my opinion!

PLEASE NOTE! I always add this disclaimer! I have played this album prior to listing as usual and have given my honest opinion on the audio quality. Please remember this is a 41 years old original vinyl (not a reissue) Please allow for the odd interference/static/crackle/tick but importantly nothing consistant through out the audio! Please remember  that this would have been originally played on a system that is 41 years old!
All indications i.e. that this vinyl has (not) been overplayed and in fact looks barely ever played in my personal opinion, at least no more than a handful of times in my opinion and the audio quality superbe on all frequencies.

The labels
This features the "Reprise" labels. These are superbe just minimal spider trails only can be seen, (even when angled to the light) and little if (no) spindle ware! This vinyl has had just minimal play only in my personal opinion!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original stiff card picture sleeve. No splits or tears very clean indeed!  Any marks or wear is very minor worth to mention. The vinyl is now always stored seperately from the sleeve.

The cover

The original 1st issue Shorepack by Shorewood Packaging Co Ltd England. Textured, un-laminated  cover is superbe!  and very fragile is rarely seen in decent condition like this one. There are (no) edge splits or tears.   The spine is lovely and  square   A truly superbe example rarely seen like this.!  No real nasty creases. Very minor corner bumping barekly noticed unless looked for in my opinion. Any imperfections or indents are very minor and are not really noticed unless looked for in my opinion. Must be at least Excellent Plus in my opinion rarely ever seen like this after 41 years!

The Insert
This is complete with the original textured lyric insert like new condition.Rarely seen like this!
