Tysondog is a British heavy metal band formed in Newcastle in the early 1980s and associated with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) movement. Although not as commercially successful as some of their peers, Tysondog carved out a dedicated following thanks to their energetic sound, blending classic heavy metal riffs with raw, punk-like aggression.
Released in 1984, Beware of the Dog is Tysondog's debut album and one of the more underground gems of the NWOBHM scene. The album captures the essence of the era’s heavy metal: fast-paced riffs, soaring vocals, and galloping rhythms. Songs like "Hammerhead" and "Dead Meat" exemplify their straightforward, no-frills approach to heavy metal, with powerful guitar riffs and high-pitched vocals typical of the genre. The album is filled with dynamic, catchy hooks and aggressive energy, showcasing their potential to compete with bigger bands like Saxon or Diamond Head at the time.
