Description

An original 1st press of ATGR on UK Reprise from 1970. Matrix A1/B1. Along with the A1/B1 matrix number the label gives away that it's the original 1st press ...the original catalogue number from 1970 is still present "RSLP6383". The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold cover with no reference to the later Kinney re-cataloguing and no reference to the reissue in 1972 [as all later copies do]. The de facto  proof of a 1st issue cover is the original catalogue number in the bottom right on the front, the top-right in the interior, and then again on the spine. Also included is an original generic white poly-line inner with the 'foreign patents pending'. We also have the original thick-paper lyric sheet - with the original catalogue number quoted in the bottom right corner [confirming it's not a swap]. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) In superb condition and has clearly only seen very light use. Under close inspection we struggled to make out more than a couple of light marks per side - nothing heavy or remotely nasty looking. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with two slight deviations. A really superb copy of 'Gold Rush' and is breathtaking at times.. It's an acoustic paired down effort from Young and anything other than a really-clean copy is going to leave you disappointed. Intros and inbetweens are mostly silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. Clearly this is a low-mileage copy and it really helps the audio shine through. Interference is very limited in nature. All we could detect were a few light crackles in a couple of isolated moments [intro to 'Tell Me Why'] and a couple of slight ticks in 'Birds'. This LP has really been looked after and has survived in impressive condition.
Cover (Ex) This grading on Gold Rush is nothing short of miraculous for what is an incredibly fussy cover. Lovely clean front with out the usual surface wear that usually crops up. Just one slight crease in the extreme top left corner. The rear is equally good - no issues at all. The interior is pretty much immaculate. Edge wear is very very slight and this is really is unusual for this title. Even the openings are still sharp. The spine is pretty much totally intact - truly impressive. Overall the cover still retains excellent rigidity. What a specimen!
Inner (Ex-) Very nice condition. No splits. Lightest ageing at extremities.
Lyric Sheet (Ex) Beautiful condition and has never been near a wall. Slightest ageing along the central fold.
