Description

For your consideration; An extremely rare ONE OWNER ORIGINAL PRESSING of Herbie Hancock  Takin’ Off - Blue Note 4109 -  Van Gelder Mono July 4th 1962 - VG

THIS IS A RELIST WITH A MORE ACCURATE RATING. As per my on going commitment to the buyer for accuracy and full transparency. Thank for looking.

A fantastic line up on this classic Hancock LP. Read, Sound is good on robust tracks, which is the whole LP, minus Alone and I, which is a quite track and sound very noisy (groove wear). It play through with no skips and an occasional pop. Noise between tracks. A professional cleaning may go a long way on this classic. But very listenable and solid. Looks great, rare issue with factory added Watermelon Man sticker on cover. A true Rudy Van Gelder collectors piece. This is a one owner original  pressing (with the cursive P for Plastylite and VanGerlder etched in the dead wax) LP from the golden age of jazz at it's finest!! A great addition to your collection or an amazing gift for the special record collector in your life. This is a no reserve auction. There is a HUGE difference in both value and sonics of an ORIGINAL pressing Blue Note.

Blue note factoid: ALL “original” (not FIRST, but original pre-Liberty) pressings have the little “ear” mark in the dead wax. It looks like a cursive “P” because that is what it is! It’s “P” for Plastylite, the pressing plant that pressed ALL original Blue Notes.

Vinyl is VG (vg- depending on track) Some hairlines. Groove wear on some tracks, noise between tracks. Significant noise on Alone and I ( a very quite track). The more robust tracks sound good with an occasional pop. No skips very listenable.

Labels look VG+++. Birght and vibrant (As new)

Original Inner Sleeve is VG++  just the right patina .

Front Cover - VG++ No separation of seams. Small dog ear on bottom right, bright and clean.

Rear jacket - G - Overall nice but has period reviews glued to the jacket.
