Up for auction here is a very rare FIRST Uk pressing of the second Lp by Pink Floyd entitled A Saucerful of Secrets. Released in the Uk on Harvest records?– catalogue number SX 6258. This is a very rare Mono pressing with misspelled “ Gilmore” credit on the label and the cover AND very early mother stampers.

Matrix / Runout (A) XAX 3633-1 and XAX 3634-1 on side 2. The mother stampers are 1R on side 1 and 1G on side 2. This is a very early pressing !

The vinyl is visually in very nice condition and has obviously been well looked after. The vinyl has retained its nice deep sheen and does not look 54 years old. There are a few superficial marks on both sides , slightly more on side 2 but I would grade it as visually being in a strong Very Good+ condition , a really nice copy. The audio is also very nice and plays through superbly without any skips or jumps. There is some normal light background crackle and a couple of small pops but overall it was a really good listen and I would grade the audio as Very Good+. It was an absolute pleasure to listen to.

The Labels are in great condition with some light spindle marks . I would grade them also as Excellent. As mentioned it has the misspelled Gilmore credit on the title track.

The Original first press Garrod and lofthouse flipback sleeve has some normal light signs of wear but is still a really great example. The spine is clearly legible. The laminate is vibrant with a little ringwear and laminate creasing .The flipback is nice and sharp. I would grade it as Excellent. It has the misspelled Gilmore credit which is only on first press sleeves.

The record comes with its original EMI inner sleeve which is also excellent. The record will be sent in a new Polylined inner.

Overall a superb copy of this classic Floyd lp.

I use Record Collector ratings to grade my vinyl. These are :

Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.

Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening of sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc..

Fair: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise: it may even jump. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Poor: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise etc.. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing

The record also has the rare misprint on the label on Side one. It says “Let there me more light” , not be.
