Pink Floyd : Wish You Were Here A1 / B5 1st Issue + Postcard 1975
This classic album plays to a standard that I rarely ever find these days. To say the clarity, definition and warmth of the audio is superb is an understatement! S1 is stunning with the most 'complete' version of 'Shine on...' that I have heard in years. Sonically it is incredible and 'Welcome To The Machine' is so close to that with just one static tick / light click. As for S2 it is stunning and then some! I mean '...Cigar' is perfect and the 'Wish You Were Here' plays with a clarity and warmth I honestly do not think I have heard before. Put simply there is no background, not even during the radiophonic / acoustic intro section, and the second part of 'Shine On...' is just as impressive. It goes without saying that is so so rare because this side is so often impacted by static or worse! As always I have played every track in full and please read my audio grading below, I think it covers just how pristine the audio is!
The G & L cover is in superb condition with barely any wear and the lyric inner has no side splits either, it is a very clean example. The original postcard is in fantastic shape also.
This A1/B3 is known as the first pressing but the A1/B5 (this one) is still known as a first issue. It was mastered by Harry T. Moss which is perhaps one reason why sonically it is stronger and cleaner than the A1/B3. If you are wondering why the inner sleeve has rounded corners then the pinkfloydarchives explains that. The first issue release (although maybe not the A1/B3s) had five different inner sleeves and the one with the rounded corners is indeed number 5 on that list. This pressing also still credits 'Shine On... Part 5' to Waters-Gilmour-Wright' when later editions only credit Waters.

Visual description
The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a superb glossy sheen with no scratches. Under a bright light I can only see a small number of faint hairlines with just a few more on S2 but they are 100% superficial as they have no impact on the immaculate audio. Under 'normal' light the vinyl is pristine. There is obviously no groove or surface wear and the EMI Harvest labels are 'as new' with no marking or spindle wear.
Play Grading
The quiet build up intro on 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part One)' plays with stunning clarity, there are only a couple of super quiet statics and by that I mean barely audible! I'm already up to 2 mins and it just could not play any better, the clarity and warmth could not be any more impressive. A few seconds after brings in Gilmour for the first time and this solo is more or less the same with only a couple of minor statics. There are no ticks, clicks or pops and no underlying static either. As Wright's signature sound descends into near silence there is literally no background and Gilmour's next solo section, soon followed by Mason, can only be described 'as new'. The clarity and definition of the audio is amazing and it's been a long time since I heard this classic playing with such STUNNING precision. It continues in the same precise way with zero background - every Gilmour solo is faultless - I cannot believe what I am listening to! The first verse / chorus starting around the 8.40 min mark plays with sublime clarity and again there is not so much as a dust tick. The instrumental bridge is perfect and the second verse / chorus is of the same high end standard. Parry's classic sax section then plays with an audio definition that is second to none. In essence it plays with 100% perfection and the long fade out section is absolutely STUNNING with only a small number of barely audible statics. The entire 13.5 minutes plays with a sonic quality that I have not heard in years and I am sure many would grade it as Mint but I will say Mint- just to err on the side of caution. For some reason I find it easier to grade shorter songs as Mint!
The segue into 'Welcome To The Machine' is so clean and the industrial opening is close to perfect with just one static tick just before the one minute mark. The 'acoustic' section is flawless and then the opening vocal section has no background whatsoever, not one static sound. The instrumental break is 'as new' and again sonically it is out of this world! The second verse is as strong and clear as the first and for once there is no vocal distortion during this section. The instrumental end section is perfect and industrial ending / audience section is equal to that, never heard better. The fade out incorporating the double 'pop' type sound and cough right at the end can easily be heard and again there is just no background during this final piece. This would be Mint but for that one brief aberration but Near Mint is still a fair assessment of the audio.

The intro on 'Have A Cigar' keeps up the standard with no intrusion and Harper's opening vocal is just as impressive. No ticks, clicks etc. The instrumental bridge is equal to that - this is becoming repetitive now! The second verse again defies the age of the album and plays with sensational clarity and the closing instrumental has no background either. Gilmour and Wright leading the way here and 'as new' is well deserved here. Even the radiophonic outro plays perfectly - how rare is that?! Mint
The spoken / radiophonic intro on 'Wish You Were Here' is often plagued by a fair amount of static etc and I do mean plagued! However, I am delighted to say this introduction is quite simply the MOST STUNNING I have ever heard. The clarity of sound is quite simply out of this world perfect etc! Not just one of the best I have heard, it is THE best! And the acoustic section is on the same level with no intrusion whatsoever - I'm sure it must have something to do with Harry T Moss 'cutting' the record i.e. he managed to eradicate all the original issues. Plus it helps that this record has been so well preserved of course. This truly is audio of the highest standard and then Gilmour's opening vocal is essentially perfect with only one barely audible static at the start. As Mason comes in the audio is 'as new' and it continues to play with the same clarity and warmth that is very evident on S1. The chorus is sublime and the instrumental / 'vocal' end section plays with impeccable quality also. I will say Mint- because of a couple of mega quiet statics but really Mint would not be too far of a reach! The most 'complete' version I have ever had the pleasure in listening to.
The 'wind' intro on 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part Two)' is nigh on perfect with only a handful of barely audible and totally insignificant statics. The clarity again is top class. You can so easily hear Waters' faint bass line in the background and every subtle nuance from Wright also. No word of lie I noticed a couple of audio 'sounds' I have never picked up before. As it progresses there is no drop in quality and Gilmour's next solo has no background. The power and depth of the audio is comparable to an unplayed record and on the top end there is no distortion either. The vocal section plays beautifully with nothing to detract from the pristine audio and the quiet handover into the next section plays with sublime clarity. This almost 'jam' like instrumental plays with exceptional quality and as the audio gets quieter there is juts no background, not even a single static! Wright's concluding section then plays with stunning precision, so so precise! The clarity of sound is amazing and this is just one reason why the Harry T Moss 'cuts' are so collectable and this section also demonstrates just how vital Wright was to the Floyd sound. I mean the entire album is chock full of his sound lets face it! The final end section is just incredible, I'm sorry to be so effusive but it's emotional listening to this classic playing with such quality. It's a long outro and yet.... no background. I cannot emphasise enough just how clean and precise it is. This time I think Mint is an honest appraisal of the audio. I cannot see how any other version would top this.
The Cover, Lyric Inner & Postcard
This iconic G & L cover is in excellent condition with hardly any shelf wear. As this is 'further down the line' of the A1/B5 pressings it has a more glossy look and that helped keep it so clean over the last 50 years. The edges and spine are in superb order and the corners have only the bare minimum of wear. The opening edge is close to perfect and as stated the front cover is exceptionally clean with no marking and just one very small corner crease top right. The back cover is equally as impressive with one minor indent top left that hardly deserves a mention! A stunning example overall.
The lyric inner (with rounded corners) is in lovely condition with no obvious marking. The thumb notch is perfect and it has just one barely visible indent on the bottom edge and a couple of very faint edge crease on the red veil side. The original postcard with the serrated edges is basically perfect with just one tiny corner rub.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
