ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This superb LP – a truly beautiful collector’s copy – from German RCA (LSC-3014, German Teldec Telefunken-Decca pressing, red/silver label, laminated glossy sleeve, stereo) features the great Itzhak Perlman, then a young firebrand, in a stirring and brilliant account of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major Op. 35, with an equally captivating performance of Dvorak’s charming Romance for Violin and Orchestra in F minor Op. 11 / B 39, both recorded in December 1967 in the fabled acoustics of Symphony Hall, Boston, with veteran conductor Erich Leinsdorf leading the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Wrote the superb critic Victor Carr Jr. for ClassicsToday.com: “Itzhak Perlman's late-1960s RCA recordings, made with an ever supportive Erich Leinsdorf, capture the violinist at the beginning of his career, when his confidence, bravura, and overall beguiling sweetness of tone were already clearly in evidence. In the Tchaikovsky, as in his later performances, Perlman tempers his instincts for virtuoso showmanship with poise and musical sensitivity, communicating his genuine love for the score. He's slightly more rambunctious in this earlier version, resulting in occasionally less than dead-on intonation in rapid passages, but many will prefer the excitement…"
Incidentally, the fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket are provided in German, English, and French.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT++. There is slight bumping to the lower-left corner, a few minor creases, and a small former owner’s sticker to the rear panel, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, or owners marking and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and very attractive – really, it is a quite gorgeous collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT++. Although the surfaces are not CD silent (some very light surface noise), in general the playback is superb. If you must have a flawless or near-MINT copy, then you are advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector’s copy.
